Taso LED Step Light TRI Colour in Black

This is the bright end of the Taso range. The same surface-mounted aluminium body is offered at 3.5 W and at 10 W, and this is the 10 W version — 600 lm to 650 lm depending on the colour temperature selected, which is roughly three times what the smaller Taso produces and enough to light a wide tread or a landing rather than only mark its edge.

Choosing the output before the finish

Because both Taso sizes share a body and a mounting, the decision people get wrong is output rather than appearance. At 10 W this fitting will light the ground in front of it properly, which is what you want on a wide flight, a landing or a path junction where someone has to see where to put a foot. On a narrow domestic riser it is more light than the job needs, and at ankle height surplus output becomes glare rather than useful illumination — that is where the 3.5 W Taso belongs. Three finishes are offered at the same price: poly powder coated black, white, and silver.

Wiring it

All three order codes are 12 V DC and require a 12 V DC LED driver sized for the whole run. At 10 W each, the arithmetic gets real quickly — six fittings draw 60 W, so choose a driver comfortably above that rather than level with it, and give it a position that suits its own IP rating: a cavity, meter box or weatherproof enclosure, not buried and not exposed. The sheet warns in capitals against connecting the fitting directly to 240 V. Wiring is parallel, the cable tail is 200 mm, and on a longer run it is worth feeding from near the middle rather than one end so the last fitting does not dim from voltage drop — more noticeable at this wattage than at low outputs, because the current drawn is higher.

Where it works

• Wide external flights and landings, where the tread needs lighting rather than outlining.
• Path junctions and level changes that people approach at speed.
• Covered entries and under eaves — IP54 covers rain and splashing, not hosing.

Specifying it

The 10 W LED is built in — no globe and no socket. Tri-colour switching across 3000 K, 4000 K and 5500 K gives 600 lm, 625 lm and 650 lm, set once at installation and not adjustable afterwards. It is not dimmable, so if this proves brighter than the space wants, the answer is the 3.5 W model rather than a dimmer. IP54, CRI above 80, aluminium.
