The metre-long Barline Shadow is the one specified when the light is meant to be read as architecture. A 1000 mm bar at 90 mm wide and 45 mm deep holds its own against a full-height blade wall, a wide garage face or a long alfresco elevation — positions where a 300 mm or 600 mm fitting looks like an afterthought. It also delivers real output: at 1800 lm on its 4000K setting it lights the ground in front of it, not just the wall behind it. The decision is whether your elevation has a surface long enough to carry it; a metre of unbroken flat wall is the minimum for the proportion to work.

Where it works

• Wide garage and carport facades, mounted horizontally above the door.
• Full-height rendered blade walls at an entry, run vertically so the line reads floor to head height.
• Long alfresco and pool walls, where a single continuous band replaces a row of separate fittings.
• Boundary and retaining walls along a driveway, throwing enough light to make the paving readable.

Specifying it

HV3574T-BLK and HV3574T-WHT are 240 V AC, so the fitting wires straight to mains with no driver required, and as a Class I fitting it must be earthed. The 15 W LED is built in — no globe is needed and none can be fitted — behind a frosted Perspex diffuser that hides the individual diodes over the full metre. Tri-colour switching gives 900 lm at 3000K, 1800 lm at 4000K and 975 lm at 5500K. IP65 handles direct rain and coastal weather; IK08 covers impact. Aluminium body, black or white powder coat. A 3-year replacement warranty applies.

Getting the effect right

Over a metre, any bow in the wall or in the fixing line shows in the shadow gap, so pack the mounts to a string line rather than following the render. Set the colour temperature before the fitting is closed — the selector is not reachable once it is on the wall. If the bar is doing the path lighting as well as the facade, 4000K is the setting that earns its keep.
