Stainless Steel Adjustable Wall Light Piaz

The Piaz is a single adjustable wall pillar light in high grade 304 stainless steel, and the number that distinguishes it from the rest of the family is its beam: 120°, where most adjustable wall lights of this size are around 90°. That extra spread changes what it is good at. A 120° beam does not punch light a long way; it covers a wide area close to the fitting, which is what you want on a path, a landing, or a wall you are trying to light evenly rather than dramatically.

The choice to make

One part number, HV1271T, in stainless steel. Everything else is set at install: the head tilts through 90° and swivels through 270°, and the colour temperature is selected on the globe itself across 3000K, 4000K and 5500K, giving 270 lm, 285 lm and 300 lm respectively. Because the beam is wide, aim matters less here than it does on a narrow-beam fitting — but tilt still decides whether the spread lands on the ground or halfway up the wall.

Where it works

• Beside a path or a set of external steps, where wide coverage beats reach.
• Under a porch or entry soffit, filling the whole threshold evenly.
• Covered outdoor living areas that need general light rather than accent.
• Sheltered positions under cover, where 304 stainless outlasts a painted finish.

Specifying it

The Piaz runs on 240 V AC and wires straight to mains, with no driver in the circuit. It takes a single GU10 globe, supplied with the fitting and replaceable, and it is not dimmable with that globe. When the time comes to change it, order a GU10 — an MR16 pin-base lamp will not fit the socket even though it looks a similar size — and stay under the maximum wattage printed on the fitting's label.

Its rating is IP54, which means protection against splashing water rather than weather. That puts it under an eave, a porch roof or a balcony, and rules out a fully exposed facade; if the position takes driving rain, the IP65 Tivah range is the alternative to look at. Havit does not cover tea staining under warranty, so wherever salt reaches the fitting the stainless should be washed down regularly. Coastal siting — Havit’s condition

Havit’s installation instructions for this fitting state that aluminium and 304 stainless steel fittings must not be installed within 5 km of any salt water environment. That is a condition on where the fitting may go, and it sits beside the IP rating rather than inside it: a fitting can be rated for direct rain and still fall outside this rule, because the issue is salt carried in the air rather than water landing on the surface. Note that 304 stainless steel is named in this restriction — 316 stainless steel is not named in it. Earthing and protection class

This fitting runs on 240 V AC mains and is Protection Class 1 — an earth is required at the fitting. Havit's installation sheet has the installer connect the earth conductor first, then live and neutral.
