Lisca Square Surface Mounted Step Light

The Lisca Square is the least expensive fitting in this range and the one to reach for when a project needs six or eight of them rather than one or two. A square face suits brick and block coursing, where a round fitting has nothing to line up with, and the clear Perspex diffuser throws a brighter, harder edge than the frosted and opal fittings alongside it.

Four order codes, and only two need a driver

This listing sells both voltages in both finishes, all at the same price, so the order code is the only thing separating them:

• HV3228T-BLK-240V and HV3228T-WHT-240V wire straight to mains. No driver.
• HV3228T-BLK-12V and HV3228T-WHT-12V are 12 V DC and require a 12 V DC LED driver.

The choice is about the circuit rather than the budget. For one or two fittings off an existing point, 240 V is simpler and there is no driver to buy. For a run of six or more, 12 V is usually better — one driver feeds the lot. The two voltages also differ electrically: the sheet lists the 12 V model as Protection Class 3 (low voltage, no earth required) and the 240 V model as Protection Class 2 (no earth required). Neither needs an earth at the fitting, which is worth knowing before the cable is run.

Where it works

• External stair flights, one per step or every second step on a longer run.
• Brick and block walls, where a square face sits with the coursing.
• Path edges and low retaining walls at ankle height.
• Poolside and coastal steps — IP65 covers direct rain and hose wash-down.

Specifying it

The 3 W LED is built in — no globe, no socket. Tri-colour switching across 3000 K, 4000 K and 5500 K gives 150 lm, 160 lm and 155 lm; the middle setting is marginally the brightest, so treat the list as three colours rather than a ladder of outputs. It is not dimmable. IP65 and IK08, CRI above 80. The cover is aluminium on a plastic mounting base — worth knowing, because the base is the part that takes the fixings and it is not metal.

Lights For You carries the Lisca in square and round, black and white. Set every fitting on a flight to the same colour temperature before it goes up — the switch is on the fitting, not somewhere you can reach afterwards.
