Curva White LED Step Light

This is the white Curva — electrically identical to the black, and the only dimmable fitting in this range. Every other step light here is fixed output. The white finish is the one to choose on rendered, painted or light stonework, where a black fitting reads as a dark spot on the wall during the day and the light itself is the only thing you want noticed at night.

How you dim a 12V fitting

The datasheet lists this as Triac dimmable, but the fitting runs on 12 V DC. The dimming therefore happens on the primary side of the driver rather than at the fitting, which means two things have to be right: the driver must be a Triac-dimmable 12 V DC driver, and the wall dimmer must be a Triac (leading-edge) type compatible with it. A dimmable fitting on a non-dimmable driver gives no dimming at best and flicker or buzz at worst — and the fitting gets blamed for the driver's limitation. Specify both together.

Wiring it

The single order code is 12 V DC and needs that driver, sized above the total load rather than level with it. The datasheet lists Protection Class 3 — no earth required at the fitting, and warns in capitals against connecting it directly to 240 V. Feed a long run from near its middle rather than one end: on a dimmable circuit, a voltage-drop dip at the far fitting looks exactly like a dimming step, and you will spend an evening blaming the dimmer.

• Rendered, painted or light stone walls, where a white body disappears by day.
• Entry and terrace steps where the light level should change with the occasion.
• Poolside and coastal steps: IP65 covers direct rain and hose wash-down.

Specifying it

The 5 W LED is built in — no globe, no socket. Tri-colour switching across 3000 K, 4000 K and 5500 K gives 400 lm, 450 lm and 425 lm, set once at installation and not changed afterwards. That is bright for a step light, which is exactly why dimmability earns its keep here. Brass body in white with a frosted diffuser, IP65, surface mounted.

Supplied by Lights For You. If the run crosses both a light and a dark wall, the black Curva is the same fitting in the other finish — matching them on one circuit is straightforward because the electrical specification and the driver requirement are identical.
