Spar is the smallest fitting in this group by a wide margin — a 0.5 W miniature spotlight, 135 mm tall and only 15 mm wide, available in black or white. At around 25–30 lumens it is not a tree uplight and will not pretend to be one. It is a detail light: a single small point that picks out one plant, one step edge or one piece of garden sculpture. Bought expecting a floodlight, it disappoints; bought as one of a dozen quiet markers down a path, it is exactly right.

The choice to make: 0.5 W is a detail, not a wash

The realistic way to use Spar is in numbers. A run of eight or ten down a garden path builds a rhythm of small light pools at very low total wattage, which is a far better result than two bright spots doing the same job. Its other advantage is that it mounts two ways: on the supplied spike into soil, or surface mounted onto a deck board, a retaining wall cap or a pergola post, so one part number covers both a garden bed and the hard landscaping beside it.

• Garden path and stepping-stone edges, spiked into the bed alongside and angled across the paving.

• Small feature planting and pots — a single agave, tree fern or sculpture, where a 36° beam picks out the form.

Specifying it

Spar is 12 V DC and requires a 12 V DC LED driver. It must never be connected directly to 240 V. Each fitting must sit within 25 m of its driver — beyond that Havit does not honour the warranty, because voltage drop over a long low-voltage run shows as dimming and colour shift between fittings. Its saving grace on a big run is the tiny 0.5 W draw: even ten of them is a very small load on one driver.

The LED is built in — no globe is needed and none can be fitted. Rated IP65, so rain, sprinklers and ground moisture are all within its rating. Tri-colour selectable at install across 3000K, 4000K and 5500K, with output in the 25–30 lm range depending on the temperature chosen; the variant table carries the per-SKU figure. Clear glass, 36° beam, 90° tilt, IK08 impact rated, on a 1 m reinforced cable. Dimmable. Installation by a licensed electrician.
