Polari is a bollard on a spike — a 574 mm column that pushes into the ground rather than bolting to a plinth, so a path can be lit properly without concrete, conduit or a paved edge. That makes it the fitting for gardens that are still changing: it goes in with a mallet and moves the same way. The head is ø170 mm and throws light downward and outward across the surface rather than into the eye.
Polari comes in four materials, and they are genuinely different metals rather than four colours of the same one. Solid copper will patinate from bright penny to deep brown and eventually green — that is the point of it, and it cannot be stopped. Antique brass arrives already darkened and moves more slowly. 316 stainless stays close to how it looks now, and the powder-coated black 316 disappears into planting. Every one carries the same 3 W lamp and the same output, so the only thing you are choosing between them is how the material ages.
The column stands 574 mm with a ø170 mm head and a 200 mm spike, on a 1 m cable. It takes a 3 W G5.3 globe — the bi-pin base an MR16 lamp uses, so a replacement is easy to source, but check you are buying G5.3 and not the similarly-named G5, which is a fluorescent tube pin and will not fit. Tri-colour selectable, and the product's own per-SKU table gives 300 lm at 3000K, 315 lm at 4000K and 310 lm at 5500K — note that 4000K, not the coolest setting, is the brightest here, so do not assume the figures climb with temperature. CRI >80, IK08, Protection Class III, IP65, and not dimmable. It is a 12 V DC fitting: it requires a 12 V DC LED driver, must not be connected directly to 240 V, and must sit within 25 m of that driver with supply within ±5% or the warranty is void.
Backed by a 3-year replacement warranty.
Lights For You supplies all four Polari finishes from stock — tell us the site and we will say honestly whether the copper will still look the way you are picturing it a few seasons from now.
Only the material. Solid copper patinates from bright to brown to green, antique brass starts dark and changes slowly, 316 stainless stays much as it looks, and the black is powder coat over 316. All four carry the same 3 W lamp and the same output.
A 3 W G5.3 — the bi-pin base an MR16 lamp uses. Be careful buying a replacement: G5 is a different base entirely, belonging to fluorescent tubes, and will not fit. Ask for G5.3 or MR16 specifically.
Yes, on this fitting. Its own table reads 300 lm at 3000K, 315 lm at 4000K and 310 lm at 5500K. Output does not simply climb with colour temperature, so choose the temperature for how you want the planting to look rather than for brightness.
Yes, a 12 V DC LED driver. Connecting a 12 V fitting directly to 240 V destroys it and voids the warranty. Keep each fitting within 25 m of its driver and the supply within ±5%.
That is the design. The 200 mm spike drives into the ground and the fitting stands on it, so no plinth, footing or paved edge is needed — and it can be pulled and repositioned if the garden changes.
No, and it is not meant to. Copper exposed to weather darkens within months and moves toward a green patina over years. If you want the fitting to look the same in five years, choose 316 stainless or the black finish instead.
No. Both datasheets record it as not dimmable, so run it from a standard 12 V DC driver rather than a dimmable one.
