Pointe is a fully adjustable garden spike spotlight in black or white powder-coated aluminium, with 90° tilt and 270° swivel and a two-piece spike that assembles to 476 mm. It takes a replaceable 5 W MR16 LED globe, and between the long spike and the free-moving head it is the fitting to choose when you know the garden will change and you want to re-aim rather than re-install.

The choice to make: adjustability and spike depth

The 270° swivel plus 90° tilt means one Pointe can be pointed almost anywhere from where it stands, so a bed that gets replanted does not need the lighting moved. The spike ships as 2 × 238 mm sections: use one for shallow beds over rubble or a slab, both for the full 476 mm in deep soil where an adjustable head needs a firm base to hold its aim. Black disappears into mulch and shadow; white suits pale gravel, render and coastal planting, though it shows soil splash sooner.

Where it works

• Uplighting trees and tall shrubs in a bed that will be replanted, where the aim needs to move over time.
• Front-of-house feature walls and entry piers, swivelled to line the beam up on site rather than guessing on plan.
• Deep mulched garden beds where the full 476 mm spike anchors the fitting against watering and wind.
• Pool surrounds and courtyard planting, on an existing low-voltage garden circuit with the head aimed away from the eye line.

Specifying it

The base is MR16 and the globe is replaceable — a serviceable fitting rather than a sealed one. Replacements must be MR16 rated for 12 V DC; an MR11, GU10 or G5.3 lamp is the wrong base and must not be fitted.

Pointe is 12 V DC and requires a 12 V DC LED driver, and must never be connected directly to 240 V — that is immediate, unwarranted failure. Size the driver for the combined wattage of every fitting on the circuit, with headroom, not for one.

Rated IP65: direct rain, sprinklers and ground moisture are all within rating. Tri-colour selectable at install, paired as 270 lm at 3000K, 285 lm at 4000K and 300 lm at 5500K, with a 90° beam and a 2 m reinforced cable. Hold one colour temperature across the whole garden. Installation by a licensed electrician.
