Napa Aluminium Black Spotlight

Napa is the narrow one. Where most garden spikes throw a broad wash, Napa's beam is 20° — a genuine spot. That single number is what the fitting is for. A 20° beam aimed at the base of a tree travels up the trunk and holds together in the canopy instead of dissolving into the lawn on the way; the same beam on a column, a sculpture or a rendered feature wall draws a clean shape rather than a smear. It is the difference between a garden that looks lit and a garden that looks designed.

20° is the beam, 90° is the tilt

Both numbers appear on the fitting's data and they measure different things. The tilt is 90° — how far the head swings so you can aim it. The beam is 20° — how wide the light is when it arrives. With a beam this tight, aiming is not a detail you can leave to whoever pushes the spike in: two degrees of error over five metres visibly misses. Set it after dark, with the light on, and expect to come back once when the planting has grown.

It also mounts on a surface, which the spike version of most fittings cannot

Havit lists the installation type as "Ground - Spike or Surface Mount". That makes Napa unusually flexible: the same fitting goes into a garden bed on its 200 mm spike, or onto a deck edge, a retaining wall or a paved threshold where there is no soil to take a spike at all. On a job with mixed surfaces it means one fitting and one look throughout rather than two products that nearly match.

Specifying it

• 12 V DC, driver required. Napa must be fed from a suitable 12 V DC LED driver. Do not connect the fitting directly to 240 V — it destroys a low-voltage fitting instantly.
• 5 W built-in LED — there is no globe to buy, source or fail.
• Tri-colour selectable: 200 lm at 3000K, 210 lm at 4000K, 205 lm at 5500K. Note that 4000K is the brightest setting, not 5500K — output does not climb with colour temperature, so do not choose the coolest setting expecting more light.
• Triac dimmable, at the driver. A 12 V DC Triac-dimmable driver is the part that decides whether dimming works.
• IP65, IK08, clear glass diffuser, protection class 3, CRI above 80, and a UGR rating under 19 — low glare for something you may well walk past at eye level on a wall mount.

Aluminium body in poly powder-coated black, lamp life rated to under 30,000 hours, and a 3-year replacement warranty. Low-voltage garden wiring remains work for a licensed electrician.
