Copper LED Adjustable Spike Light

Eden is an adjustable garden spike spotlight in solid copper, with 90° tilt, 270° swivel and a replaceable 5 W MR16 LED globe. Copper is the most expensive body in this range and the argument for it is simple: it is corrosion-resistant all the way through, so there is no coating to chip, chalk or bloom. In a coastal garden or a bed that is watered daily, that is the difference between a fitting that lasts and one that looks tired in three summers.

The choice to make: copper will weather, and it should

New copper is bright pink-orange. Within months it dulls, then browns, and over a few years it moves toward a dark patina — faster near salt air, slower inland. That is not a fault and it cannot be prevented outdoors. Choose Eden because you want the fitting to settle into the garden rather than stay looking new; choose a black powder-coated spike if a consistent factory finish matters to you. Install the whole run at once so they weather at the same rate.

• Coastal and beachside gardens, where salt attacks painted aluminium long before it troubles solid copper.
• Uplighting mature trees — gums, figs, frangipani — where 270° swivel lets the beam be lined up on the trunk from wherever the spike will hold.
• Established and native gardens where a weathering copper body reads as part of the planting rather than as hardware.
• Heavily irrigated beds and tropical planting, where constant moisture would find any weakness in a coating.

Specifying it

The base is MR16. The globe is replaceable and a replacement must also be MR16 and rated for 12 V DC — an MR11 is a smaller lamp, a GU10 is a mains lamp on a different base, and neither belongs in this socket.

Eden is 12 V DC and requires a 12 V DC LED driver. It must never be connected directly to 240 V — that destroys the fitting on the spot and the warranty does not cover it. Size the driver for the total wattage of every fitting on the circuit, with headroom.

Rated IP65, so direct rain, sprinkler spray and the ground moisture around a spike are all within rating. Tri-colour selectable at install, paired as 270 lm at 3000K, 285 lm at 4000K and 300 lm at 5500K, over a 90° beam. Supplied with a 245 mm spike and a 2 m reinforced cable. Installation by a licensed electrician.
