LED 316 Stainless Steel Spike Light

Pointe is the tall one. Where most garden spikes put the head 300 mm or so off the ground, Pointe stands 626 mm overall on a two-piece spike, so the light source clears low planting instead of being swallowed by it. That is the whole point of the design: in a bed that grows, a short fitting is buried by its second season and a tall one is still doing its job. The body is 316 marine-grade stainless steel in a slim ø63 mm barrel.

The decision that matters: this is a 12 V fitting

Pointe runs on 12 V DC and needs a suitable 12 V DC LED driver. Its installation sheet states plainly: "Use an appropriate 12v DC LED Driver — DO NOT CONNECT LIGHT FITTING DIRECT TO 240V". It also sets two conditions that void the warranty if you miss them — the fitting must sit within 25 m of its driver, and the voltage at the fitting must be within ±5% of what it requires. Both are cable-run questions, so they belong in the plan before anything is buried, not afterwards.

• Deep or fast-growing garden beds — the 626 mm height keeps the head above the foliage line.
• Coastal and salt-air sites, where 316 is the grade that resists chloride pitting.
• Uplighting slender trees from within planting rather than from bare mulch.
• Entry paths and driveway edges, where the two-piece spike gives a firm, straight set.

Specifying it

The spike arrives as two 238 mm sections that assemble to 476 mm of ground penetration — worth knowing before you meet a rock shelf or a slab edge. Head height is 626 mm, the shade is 86 mm and the barrel is ø63 mm. It takes a 5 W MR16 globe, supplied, tri-colour selectable, and its own table pairs the figures as 270 lm at 3000K, 285 lm at 4000K and 300 lm at 5500K. Beam angle comes from the globe rather than the body, so check that specification on any replacement. The datasheet records CRI >80, IK08 impact resistance and Protection Class III — low voltage, no earth required — with IP65 sealing. It is not dimmable.
