This is the anti-glare hood for the Havit Oasis 24 W garden spike light — the largest of the three, an aluminium shroud that sets the LED deep enough inside the fitting that it cannot be seen from the side.

The Oasis 24 W is the heaviest fitting in the range, specified for tall palms, mature gums and two-storey facades. Pointing that much light upward from a garden bed produces a genuinely dazzling source at close range, and unshielded it will be visible from further away than the effect it creates — from a neighbour's upstairs window, from the street, from the other end of the garden. Of the three hoods this is the one most likely to be the difference between a facade that looks lit and a garden with a bright dot in it. It costs a fraction of the fitting and it changes nothing about what lands on the wall.

How it fits

The hood slides over the fitting and locks with a screw on the underside, so it can be added at any time to an installation that is already commissioned. It is made for the 24 W Oasis body only — the 7 W and 12 W fittings are smaller and take their own sizes. Construction is aluminium with a black poly powder-coated finish matched to the fixture.

Spill, neighbours and the view from the street

At this output the fitting stops being only your business. A 24 W uplight aimed at a two-storey facade throws a considerable amount of light past the building, and unshielded it will read as a bright point source from the footpath, from passing cars and from any upstairs window with a line of sight to it. That is the light that generates complaints, and in some councils it is the light that attracts a condition on an approval. Hooding is the cheapest fix available: it costs a small fraction of the fitting, takes a minute per light, and removes the direct view of the source without changing the wash on the wall by any amount anyone can see. If the run faces a boundary or a street, treat the hood as part of the fitting rather than as an upgrade.
