Nella Surface Mounted Round Downlight

The 12 W member of the round five-colour Nella pair. The body grows from the 7 W model's Ø100 mm to Ø118 mm across and 140 mm deep — noticeably taller rather than just wider, so on a low ceiling it reads as a proper cylinder hanging below the plane. Output goes from around 580 lm to about 1,000 lm, and the optics do not change at all.

Same 36° beam, more of it

This is the point that decides whether the 12 W or the 7 W is right for a job. Both throw the same narrow 36° cone, so the size of the pool on the floor is identical — what changes is how bright that pool is. Going up a size does not cover more area; it makes the same area brighter. If the pools are landing where you want them and the light is thin, take the 12 W. If you have gaps between pools, you need more fittings or a wider-beam product, and neither wattage will fix it.

The five settings

960 lm at 2700K, 970 at 3000K, 980 at 4000K, 990 at 5000K and 1,000 lm at 5700K. As on the 7 W, the ladder is almost flat — about 4% from end to end — so the colour choice is a purely visual one with no brightness cost attached. Colour rendering is CRI >90, colour consistency SDCM <5 and glare UGR <22, which together are why this pair gets specified over a general-purpose downlight for kitchens, retail and anywhere finishes are being judged.

Supply, earthing and dimming

It runs directly on 240 V AC with no driver to place or ventilate, and it is Protection Class 1 — an earth must be connected at the fitting. Havit specifies it as Triac dimmable and lists the HV9625 Triac dimmer as the compatible accessory. On a run of these, put one properly matched dimmer on the circuit rather than assuming an existing wall dimmer will cope; the total connected load also matters, and at 12 W a run of eight is under 100 W, which is a light load for most Triac dimmers but a very light one for some, and dimmers have minimum loads as well as maximum ones.

Build and warranty

Aluminium body in black or white with a glass lens, IP54 against dust and splashing, IK08 for impact, and >30,000 hrs of rated life. Warranty is 3 years replacement. Because it is surface mounted there is no cut-out to make, which is what makes the pair usable on a slab, a rammed-earth soffit or a lining too thin to hold a spring clip.
