A different animal from the tri-colour Nella cylinders, despite the shared range name. This one is a Ø100 mm × 105 mm aluminium body with a glass lens, and its two headline numbers are the ones a specifier actually argues about: a narrow 36° beam and CRI >90 colour rendering. It is a surface-mounted accent fitting that happens to be shaped like a downlight, not a general-purpose wash.
Most surface-mounted downlights throw 90–120° and fill a room. This one throws 36°, which at a 2.7 m ceiling puts a defined pool roughly 1.7 m across on the floor with a readable edge to it. Used as general lighting that is a mistake — you get bright patches and dark gaps. Used deliberately it is excellent: over a kitchen island, down a joinery run, on artwork, or in a row along a corridor where you want rhythm rather than an even wash. Space them for the pools you want, not for uniform lux.
Colour rendering is CRI >90 with SDCM <5 colour consistency and UGR <22 for glare — a genuinely better set of numbers than the CRI >80 fittings that dominate this category, and the reason to choose it where colour matters. The switch offers five settings rather than three: 2700K, 3000K, 4000K, 5000K and 5700K, giving 560, 570, 580, 590 and 600 lm respectively. Note how flat that is — a 7% spread from warmest to coolest — so unlike the tri-colour Nella there is effectively no output penalty for choosing the warm end. Pick the colour you want and take the light that comes with it.
It runs on 240 V AC with no driver to find a home for, and it is Protection Class 1, so an earth must be connected at the fitting. Havit specifies it as Triac dimmable and names the HV9625 Triac dimmer as the compatible accessory — worth pairing deliberately rather than assuming an existing dimmer will behave, since a mismatched dimmer on an LED load is the usual cause of flicker and buzz.
The body is aluminium in black or white, the lens is glass rather than plastic, and it carries IP54 and IK08 — a higher impact rating than the tri-colour cylinders in the same range. Lamp expectancy is >30,000 hrs and the warranty is 3 years replacement. Lights For You stocks it beside its 12 W twin, the HV5849S, which shares the optics and the colour set in a larger body.
Not really. The 36° beam is narrow — closer to a spot than a downlight — so it produces defined pools rather than an even wash. It is at its best over an island, on joinery or on artwork, and it will leave gaps if it is used to light a whole room on a normal grid.
CRI >90 with SDCM <5 and UGR <22. Colours look right, fittings match each other, and the glare figure is low. Those three numbers are what separate it from the CRI >80 fittings that fill this category.
Barely. 2700K gives 560 lm and 5700K gives 600 lm — a 7% spread across five settings. Choose the colour you want without trading brightness for it.
Five: 2700K, 3000K, 4000K, 5000K and 5700K, selected at the fitting. That is two more than the tri-colour Nella cylinders in the same range.
Yes — Havit specifies it as Triac dimmable and names the HV9625 Triac dimmer as the matching accessory. Pair it deliberately; a dimmer that was chosen for halogen is the usual cause of flicker on an LED load.
Yes. It is Protection Class 1 and runs at 240 V AC, so an earth must be connected at the fitting.
No. It is surface mounted, so it fixes to the face of the ceiling — which is why it suits a concrete slab or any lining with no cavity behind it.
