A small recessed downlight taking a Ø55mm cutout, with a Ø65mm face, in black or white. The cutout size is the whole reason this fitting exists. Standard downlights need a considerably larger opening; at 55mm the Niche fits where they cannot — narrow soffits, joinery bulkheads, shallow rebates, and ceilings crowded with structure or ductwork.
It is also the right choice when a smaller aperture is wanted for its own sake. A ceiling of 55mm apertures reads as a much quieter surface than the same room lit by larger ones, which matters in a hallway or a bedroom where the ceiling is in view.
The Niche draws 6W and is tri-colour, with the colour temperature selected on the fitting at installation rather than fixed at manufacture: 3000K, 4000K or 5500K, rated at 460lm, 535lm and 550lm respectively. The beam is 120° and colour rendering is above 80 CRI.
For a small aperture those figures are the point of balance. A 6W downlight will not light a room on its own the way a 12W one will, but a run of them at reasonable spacing gives even light without any single fitting being bright enough to be uncomfortable to look at.
The Niche is Triac dimmable, so it works with a conventional LED-rated wall dimmer without an additional module on the circuit.
It is a Class 2 fitting, which means no earth connection is required at the fitting. That simplifies the installation, though the work is still for a licensed electrician.
The fitting is rated IP54 at the front face only. That distinction matters: the visible face resists dust and splashing water, but the body above the ceiling is not sealed. It suits a bathroom ceiling outside the shower zone or a covered outdoor soffit, not a position where water can reach the fitting from above.
Cut a test hole in an offcut before committing to the ceiling — 55mm is a smaller cutout than most hole saws in a standard set, and it is worth confirming the saw before the first hole goes in the plaster. Havit states that aluminium and 304 stainless fittings must not be installed within 5km of any salt water environment. Rated lamp expectancy is >30,000 hrs and the LED is built in.
