Vertex Aluminium Black Bollard Light with Spike

The Vertex is a 600 mm column that throws light down and out at 120°, and that single number decides how many you need. A 120° spread from 600 mm puts a usable pool of light roughly two metres across on level ground, tapering rather than stopping at the edge. Space these at about that pitch and a path reads as one continuous lit surface; space them at four or five metres and you get a row of bright discs with darker ground between them, which is harder to walk than no lighting at all. The 3 W LED gives 110 lm at 3000K, 120 lm at 4000K and 115 lm at 5500K — modest on purpose, because a path light you can look straight at is a path light that has not ruined your night vision.

The slim body, and why there are two Vertex sizes

This is the Ø60 mm column. Its twin, the HV1512T, is the same fitting in a Ø70 mm body with identical output — the choice between them is proportion, not light. Against fine planting, gravel or a narrow border the 60 is the one that disappears; beside a wide driveway or heavy stonework the 70 holds its own better. The body is aluminium with a poly powder-coated black finish, rated IP65 against rain and hose spray and IK08 against knocks, which on a garden fitting means a mower or a wheelbarrow rather than vandalism.

⚠ It is 24 V DC, and you choose the colour at installation — permanently

Two things to settle before you order. First, the Vertex runs on 24 V DC and needs a suitable 24 V DC LED driver. A great deal of the Havit garden range beside it is 12 V DC, and the two cannot share a supply. Do not connect this fitting directly to 240 V. Second, the tri-colour is not a switch: the fitting's neutral cables are labelled, and your electrician selects 3000K or 5500K by connecting the matching cable — or joins both to get 4000K. Once the joint is soldered and heat-shrunk, changing your mind means re-opening it. Decide the colour before the trench is backfilled.

Two warranty conditions worth reading first

• No more than 25 m from the driver, and the supply within ±5% of 24 V. Havit states plainly that outside this allowance the warranty is void. On a long run, plan driver positions before cable lengths.
• Every joint must be watertight and none may sit under water. Fittings wire in parallel; each connection gets glue-lined heat shrink or a gel cap.
• Built-in LED, sealed — no globe to buy and none to fail — and not dimmable.
