Lisse fixed up/down LED wall light

The Lisse up/down is a slim rectangular wall light that throws light in two directions — a cone up the wall and a cone down it — from a body only 30mm deep. It is sold here in black and white, and in both mains and low-voltage versions.

Up/down fittings do something a single-direction light cannot: they draw the wall itself rather than lighting the space in front of it. On render, brick or stone the two cones graze the surface and pick up its texture, which is why these are specified on entry walls, along corridors and up stairwells where the wall is the thing worth looking at.

Light output and colour temperature

The Lisse draws 12W and is tri-colour, so the colour temperature is selected on the fitting at installation rather than fixed at manufacture: 3000K, 4000K or 5500K, rated at 475lm, 560lm and 515lm respectively. Colour rendering is above 80 CRI and the beam is 120°.

Note that 4000K is the brightest setting rather than the coolest — if maximum output matters, that is the one to choose. The fitting is not dimmable, so plan it as a switched, sensor or timer circuit.

Four part numbers, and two of them need a driver

This listing carries four SKUs and the difference is not only colour. HV3653T-WHT-240V and HV3653T-BLK-240V run directly on 240V AC mains and need no driver. HV3653T-WHT-12V and HV3653T-BLK-12V run on 12V DC and do require a 12V driver on the circuit, which is not supplied with the fitting.

Pick the mains version for a fitting going onto a wall that already has a mains point. Pick the 12V version where it is joining a low-voltage run already installed — and check what capacity is left on that driver before adding a 12W fitting to it. Either version is work for a licensed electrician.

Where it suits

The Lisse is rated IP54, which covers dust and splashing water. That makes it suitable indoors anywhere, and outdoors in a sheltered position — under an eave, in a covered entry, along a protected walkway — rather than on a wall taking driven rain directly.

At 30mm deep it is one of the shallower up/down fittings available, which matters in a corridor or beside a door where a deeper body would be brushed against.
