The Domus SHADOW 2LT is an up-and-down exterior wall light — IP65, taking two GU10 lamps to 35 W each, in black, white, copper, stainless steel or titanium silver.

What an up/down wall light actually does — and how to get it right

Two beams from one point, one up the wall and one down it. Done well it is the most effective exterior wall light there is; done badly it is two bright dots.

• Mount it close to the wall surface. The effect comes from light grazing the wall — the closer it sits, the more texture appears in brick, stone or render. Standing it off the wall flattens the whole effect.
• Height matters more than you expect. Around 1.8–2 m puts the downward cone at head height where it is useful and keeps the upward cone long enough to read. Too high and both cones shorten.
• Use them in a rhythm. A row at even spacing along a façade is what makes this fitting look designed. One on its own beside a door is a smaller effect.
• ⚠ Check what is above it. An eave, a gutter or a balcony directly overhead cuts the upward cone off and wastes half the fitting.

Choosing the GU10 lamps — this is the whole design decision

• Beam angle changes everything. A narrow beam (25–36°) gives two tight, dramatic cones with sharp edges. A wide beam (60°+) gives soft overlapping pools that light the wall more evenly. Narrow reads as architectural; wide reads as practical.
• Warm 2700–3000 K on brick, stone, timber and warm render. 4000 K only on grey or white modern surfaces.
• ⚠ Use the same lamp in both heads — and the same across every fitting on a façade. Two different beam angles on one wall is instantly visible.
• ⚠ Outdoor-rated GU10s, and check dimmability if you want it — the fitting does not dim on its own, so it depends entirely on the lamp and the circuit.

Five finishes, and two that matter outdoors

• Black — the default, and it disappears at night.
• White — for light render, where black would read as a row of dark marks.
• ✅ Stainless steel — the choice for a coastal or exposed site, where a powder-coated finish will eventually fail at the edges.
• ✅ Copper — genuinely unusual, and it weathers: bright at first, then darkening and eventually patinating. If you want that, buy it knowing it changes; if you want it to stay bright, choose something else.
• Titanium silver — a contemporary neutral.

Where it works

• Façades, entries and courtyard walls — in a row, at even spacing.
• Exposed and coastal sites — IP65, and stainless steel if salt is close.
• Textured surfaces — brick, stone and render, where grazing light shows the texture.
• ⚠ Nothing directly overhead, or the up-cone is wasted.
• ⚠ GU10 lamps not included — pick the beam angle deliberately.
