It depends on the path of travel. D40 covers less ground per fitting than D63, so a corridor needs more of them — but on a short corridor or a small building the D40 is the right choice and the D63 is over-specified. On a long path of travel the D63's wider spacing usually wins on total fitting count even at the higher unit price. The classification rather than the wattage is what AS 2293.1 turns into a spacing table, so take that to your designer rather than comparing lumens.
Two years, including the battery, and this listing records it correctly. Worth knowing that the EVAC range is tiered: the D63 versions carry four years, also including the battery. So the D40 is not simply the D63 with a shorter term stapled on — the cheaper fitting has a shorter warranty as well as a lower classification, which is worth weighing on a large installation where the difference is a maintenance cycle rather than a line item.
Because the battery is the part that fails. The housing and the LED outlast everything; the battery ages and it is what fails the periodic discharge test AS 2293 requires. A term that excludes it excludes the failure you will actually have. The BOLT emergency battens in this catalogue split theirs — three years on the fitting, one on the battery — so the EVAC wording is materially better even at two years.
Very likely. The dish adjusts between 95mm and 145mm, so it drops into an existing 95mm downlight hole or a larger 145mm one without a ceiling repair — which most emergency lights cannot do. At 34mm deep it also suits a shallow void where a conventional emergency fitting has no room. No single cutout figure is recorded, which is why it appears among the products with no cutout in a field, but the adjustable dish effectively answers the question.
Not stated in any source we hold. The required duration comes from your building's classification and your electrical designer, and the fitting's figure has to be checked against it — so settle it before it goes on a drawing. Ask us and we will get it from Domus in writing.
No — this one is white only, where both D63 versions are offered in white and black. If the ceiling is dark and appearance matters, that is a reason to look at the D63 recessed version, though it is a different classification and the spacing will differ. Tell us the situation and we will work through it.
Installing on a job that is not finished. Emergency fittings put in early otherwise sit discharging for weeks while the power is off and arrive at handover already degraded. The switch isolates the battery so the fitting can go in with the ceiling and be brought into service later — a practical feature worth using rather than ignoring.
