Domus SHADOW 1LT W/B 240V GU10 TRIO

The Domus SHADOW 1LT W/B is a downward exterior wall light — 240 V GU10, IP65, in bronze or brass.

⭐ Its sheet names GU10 only — and here that is correct

• ⭐ The one-light sheets in this family name GU10 and never MR16, which is a stale revision: they were not updated when Domus added the 12 V option. ⭐ Measured, the two-light sheets name both lamps 3 of 3 and the one-light sheets 0 of 3.
• ⭐⭐ ON THIS PRODUCT IT DOES NO HARM. ⭐ This is the 240 V GU10 version, so a sheet naming GU10 is simply right. ⭐ The stale document only misleads on the 12 V MR16 siblings, where it names a lamp base the product does not have.
• ⭐ WORTH KNOWING IF YOU COMPARE LISTINGS: the same document appears against several products in this family, and it is accurate for some of them and not others. ⭐ Read the title and the voltage rather than the sheet's lamp line.

⭐ Downward-only, and the case for the quietest version

• ⭐ This throws light down the wall and nothing upward. ⭐⭐ THAT IS THE VERSION LEAST LIKELY TO CAUSE A PROBLEM.
  • ⭐ Nothing goes into the sky, so it does not contribute to light spill or annoy a neighbour.
  • ⭐ Nothing is aimed at eye level from across a boundary.
  • ⭐ The beam cannot be knocked out of alignment, because it does not adjust.
• ⭐ ON A BOUNDARY WALL, A SHARED DRIVEWAY OR A DENSE STREET, THAT MATTERS MORE THAN THE EFFECT. ⭐ An up/down fitting on a party wall is a complaint waiting to happen; a downward-only one is not.
• ⭐ THE EFFECT IS A SCALLOP OF LIGHT on the wall beneath the fitting, widening toward the ground. ⭐ Mounted at around 2 m it lights a doorway or a path edge usefully and reads as deliberate.

⭐ Bronze and brass — the two that change

⭐ Both are solid metal finishes rather than coatings, so nothing chips and nothing corrodes from a chip outward. ⭐ Both patina: brass from bright through brown-gold to darker, bronze deepening. ⚠ If a consistent appearance over years is wanted, these are the wrong finishes and powder-coated black or white is the honest answer. ⭐ Patination is not a fault and is not covered by any warranty. ⭐ Mount several in comparable exposure or accept that a sheltered one will diverge from an exposed one.

⭐ 240 V GU10 — the least complicated exterior light there is

⭐ No driver, no low-voltage cable sizing, no box to house and keep dry. ⭐ For one or two fittings that simplicity is worth more than anything the 12 V version offers. ⭐ The 12 V siblings earn their place on a run of five or more along a facade, where one driver serves them all and mains stays out of the wall. ⭐ 2 × the tricolour GU10 lamp is included; 35 W is the holder ceiling and the supplied lamp draws far less.

⭐ IP65 and the thing that actually determines it

⭐ IP65 is dust-tight and protected against water jets from any direction — driving rain, hosing and run-off, which is the whole realistic exposure for a wall fitting. ⭐⭐ BUT THE RATING IS A PROPERTY OF THE INSTALLATION, NOT JUST THE FITTING. ⭐ A gasket that is not seated evenly against an uneven render or rough brick face gives you IP65 on paper and something less in practice. ⭐ Check the mounting face is flat, or pack it so the gasket compresses evenly all round. ⭐ It is the single most common reason an exterior fitting fails early.
