The Domus LYNX 2 × 5 W is a surface-mounted up-and-down wall or step light — 175 mm long, IP54, tri-colour switchable, CRI ≥90. 240 V mains — no driver required. ⛔ Not dimmable.
✅ This listing records voltage = 240V, and that is right. ⛔ Its
12/24 V twin records the same figure and there it is wrong — a low-voltage fitting
labelled as mains. ⭐ Twelve Domus fittings sold as 12 V or 24 V carry that error.
⭐ The same value, correct on one listing and dangerous on the other, which is why each SKU
is checked rather than the range read once.
| LYNX size | Output | Efficacy |
|---|---|---|
| 2 × 3 W, 115 mm | 490 lm | ⭐ ≈82 lm/W |
| 2 × 5 W, 175 mm | 739 lm | ≈74 lm/W |
| 2 × 12 W, 260 mm | 1,482 lm | ⚠ ≈62 lm/W |
application = Indoor on a fitting typed Exterior Wall Lights.Surface-mounted up/down LED wall and step light. 175 mm. 2 × 5 W (10 W total). 240 V mains — no driver. Switchable 3000 K / 4000 K / 5000 K. 628–739 lm. CRI ≥90. 120°. IP54. Cast aluminium, chromate pre-treated and powder coated. TPS cable gland. 50,000 hrs. Black or White. ⛔ NOT DIMMABLE — the 12/24V version is, and neither listing mentions the other. ⭐ On a run of six or eight left on dusk to dawn, that is the trade worth thinking about. ⚠ The power field records 5W on a 2 × 5W fitting: allow 10W each. ⛔ Warranty not recorded.
Supplied and supported by Lights For You.
No — this 240V version does not dim, and the 12/24V version of the same fitting does. Neither listing mentions the other. It matters more on this size than on any other LYNX, because this is the general-purpose path and step fitting: the one most likely to be installed in a run of six or eight and left on from dusk to dawn. Full output at 2am is rarely what anyone wants, and on a run that is where the running cost sits. Decide deliberately rather than by default.
Short runs, single positions and retrofits onto an existing mains point. There is no driver to size, site or eventually replace, no low-voltage cable, and nothing extra to fail — it wires like any mains fitting. The output, CRI, body and IP rating are identical to the low-voltage version. What you give up is dimming, and on a long run the economy of one driver feeding many fittings in parallel.
Yes, and it is worth saying because the identical figure on its 12/24V twin is wrong — that one is a low-voltage fitting labelled as mains, one of twelve Domus fittings sold as 12V or 24V carrying that error. The same value is correct here and dangerous there, which is why we check each SKU rather than reading the range once. If you are buying this one, the mains wiring is genuinely right.
10W — two 5W emitters. The power field records 5W, which is one emitter rather than the fitting, so allow 10W each when calculating circuit load. On a run of eight that is 80W rather than the 40W the record implies. It is a small absolute difference but it is the sort of thing that turns a comfortable circuit calculation into a marginal one.
Only where there is a surface above it. The downward emitter lights the ground you walk on; the upward one makes the wall read as lit rather than the fitting read as bright — the difference between a row of glowing objects and a lit surface. Against a wall that works well. On a free-standing edge or a low kerb with nothing above, half the fitting is doing nothing, and the single-emitter 5W LYNX at the same length is the better buy.
This one for most jobs — 739 lumens lights a path properly and washes a wall visibly, at a length that reads as a considered fitting rather than a fixture. Worth knowing that efficiency falls as the fitting grows: about 82 lumens per watt on the 2 × 3W, 74 here, and 62 on the 2 × 12W. So where coverage allows, more small fittings beat fewer large ones on energy as well as evenness.
On the up-light half, yes — grazing light across brick, render or stone is the hardest test of colour rendering there is, and at CRI 80 warm masonry reads flat and grey where at 90 it holds its colour. We measured how special the figure is rather than assuming: 100 of the 282 Domus products stating a CRI reach 90, which is 35%. A substantial minority rather than a rarity, and clustered in strips, step lights and exterior wall lights.
