DOMUS TURIN WALL BRACKET DOWN S-ARM B22

The Domus TURIN Wall Bracket Down S-Arm is a wall-mounted exterior lantern — 520 mm high, 310 mm projection, B22, 240 V, IP43, in five colours.

⭐ Downward-facing, and why that is the considerate arrangement

• ⭐ The S-arm curves out from the wall and the lantern hangs beneath it, facing down. ⭐ The upward version puts the same lantern on top of the arm.
• ⭐⭐ THE DOWNWARD VERSION IS THE ONE LEAST LIKELY TO CAUSE A PROBLEM:
  • ⭐ Nothing goes into the sky, so it does not contribute to light spill.
  • ⭐ The lantern body shades the source from anyone looking at the wall from a distance.
  • ⭐ Light lands on the ground where it is useful rather than on the wall above the fitting.
• ⭐ ON A BOUNDARY WALL, A SHARED DRIVEWAY OR A DENSE STREET THAT MATTERS MORE THAN THE EFFECT. ⭐ An upward lantern on a party wall is a complaint waiting to happen; a downward one is not.
• ⭐ THE COUNTER-ARGUMENT IS APPEARANCE. ⭐ An upward S-arm reads as more traditional and is the classic coach-lamp posture; the downward version is quieter and more functional. ⭐ Choose on the position rather than the picture.

⭐ 310 mm projection — check it against what opens

• ⭐ The bracket projects 310 mm from the wall and the lantern hangs 520 mm below the fixing.
• ⚠ THAT IS ENOUGH TO CATCH A DOOR, A GATE, OR SOMEONE CARRYING SOMETHING PAST. ⭐ Check the swing of anything near it and the width of the path beneath before setting the height.
• ⭐ A USEFUL MOUNTING HEIGHT IS AROUND 2.0 TO 2.2 m to the fixing — ⭐ which puts the bottom of the lantern at roughly 1.5 m, above head height and below the point where the light stops being useful on the ground.
• ⭐ Mount them at a consistent height along a facade. ⚠ Unevenly high brackets are conspicuous at night in a way they never are on a drawing.

⭐ The same lantern as the posts — which is the point of the range

⭐ The TURIN head serves as a wall bracket, pillar mount, post top, pendant, and on single, twin or triple-head posts. ⭐⭐ A PROPERTY WITH POSTS ON THE DRIVE AND BRACKETS AT THE DOOR READS AS ONE SCHEME BECAUSE THEY ARE LITERALLY THE SAME LANTERN. ⭐ Specifying a different wall light to go with a post light is the common alternative, and the mismatch is always visible. ⭐ The sheet names the GT-421 bracket for this arrangement.

⭐ IP43, and the seal on a wall fitting

• ⭐ IP43 covers spraying water to 60° from vertical. ⛔ Not driving rain, hosing or sprinklers.
• ⭐⭐ ON A WALL BRACKET THAT IS MORE OF A CONSTRAINT THAN ON A POST, ⭐ because a wall fitting sits against a surface that channels water down it, and rain running down a wall arrives at the bracket from directly above.
• ⭐ MOUNT IT WHERE THERE IS SOME SHELTER IF YOU CAN — ⭐ under an eave, in a porch, or on a wall that is not the weather side. ⚠ On a fully exposed elevation, expect water to find it and check the seals as part of any maintenance.
• ⭐ The downward orientation helps here too: the lantern's own body sheds water away from the opening better than an upward one does.

⭐ B22, no lamp, and opal is the answer

⭐ The lamp is not included. ⭐ Inside a lightly-diffused acrylic lantern it is visible, so its shape and finish become part of the fitting. ⭐⭐ ON A WALL BRACKET THE LANTERN IS AT OR NEAR EYE LEVEL FOR ANYONE APPROACHING THE DOOR — ⭐ so a clear or filament lamp is a bright point directly in their view. ⭐ An opal B22 fills the lantern and reads as a glowing object. ⭐ Warm rather than cool: at an entrance, cool white reads as institutional and unwelcoming.

⭐ Die-cast aluminium, and the finish is what wears

⭐ Die-cast aluminium with a moulded acrylic lens, cast in Italy and powder-coated in Australia. ⭐ The coating protects the aluminium; a chip begins corrosion at that point. ⭐⭐ ON A WALL BRACKET THE VULNERABLE POINT IS THE FIXING FACE, where the bracket meets the wall and water can sit — ⭐ so seal the fixing properly at installation and check it rather than only the visible surfaces.
