The Domus TURIN Chain Pendant is a hung exterior lantern — 670 mm overall, 223 mm wide, B22, 240 V, IP43, in five colours.

⭐ The one arrangement that needs a ceiling

• ⭐ Every other TURIN arrangement attaches to something vertical — a wall, a pier, a post. ⭐ This one hangs from something horizontal.
• ⭐⭐ THAT MAKES IT THE ANSWER FOR COVERED OUTDOOR SPACES: a porch, a portico, a verandah, a covered entry, a carport. ⭐ Positions where a wall bracket has no wall in the right place and a post has no ground.
• ⭐ IT IS ALSO THE ARRANGEMENT THAT PUTS LIGHT WHERE PEOPLE ACTUALLY STAND — ⭐ directly above a doorway rather than beside it, which lights the threshold, the lock and whoever is at the door evenly rather than from one side.
• ⚠ AT 670 mm OVERALL IT NEEDS HEIGHT. ⭐ From a 2.7 m porch ceiling the bottom of the lantern sits at about 2.0 m, which is clear. ⚠ From a 2.4 m ceiling it is at 1.73 m, which is head height for many people. ⭐ Measure the soffit before ordering.

⭐ Chain rather than rod, and what that means outdoors

• ⭐ A chain suspension swings; a rigid rod does not. ⭐⭐ IN A COVERED OUTDOOR POSITION THAT IS A REAL CONSIDERATION, because covered does not mean sheltered from wind. ⭐ A verandah on a windy site moves air freely, and a chain-hung lantern will swing in it.
• ⭐ ON A DEEP PORCH OR AN ENCLOSED PORTICO IT IS A NON-ISSUE. ⚠ On an open carport or an exposed verandah corner it is worth thinking about — a swinging lantern is distracting, and over years the movement works at the fixing.

⭐ The pendant lantern is 223 mm wide against the standard wall bracket's lantern and the Large family's 310 mm. ⭐⭐ THAT IS PROPORTIONATE FOR A HUNG FITTING — a pendant is seen against the sky or a soffit rather than against a wall, and a large lantern overhead reads as heavy. ⭐ But it does mean a chain pendant beside a Large pillar mount is a visible size difference. ⭐ If both are in view, that is a reason to use the standard family throughout rather than mixing.

⭐ IP43, and a covered position is why it works

• ⭐ IP43 covers spraying water to 60° from vertical. ⛔ Not driving rain.
• ⭐⭐ ON A PENDANT THAT WOULD BE A PROBLEM IN THE OPEN — a hanging lantern has no wall or body sheltering it from above, and rain falls straight into the top of an upward-open fitting.
• ⭐ WHICH IS EXACTLY WHY THIS ARRANGEMENT BELONGS UNDER COVER. ⭐ Under a soffit, the roof does the work the IP rating does not.
