The Domus TURIN 1LT postlight is a single-head exterior post — 2,320 mm high, 380 mm square footprint, B22, 240 V, IP43, in five colours.

⭐ The tallest single-head option, and what the height buys

• ⭐ The single-head TURIN comes at 1.32 m, 1.96 m and 2.37 m. ⭐ This is the tallest.
• ⭐⭐ AT 2.37 m A POSTLIGHT STOPS BEING GARDEN-SCALE AND STARTS BEING STREET-FACING. ⭐ It is above head height, visible from the road over a fence or hedge, and it throws light across a wider area because the source is further from the ground.
• ⭐ THAT SUITS A DRIVEWAY ENTRANCE, A BROAD FRONTAGE, OR A PROPERTY WHERE THE POST IS PART OF THE ADDRESS — ⭐ something to be seen and navigated by, not just a garden accent.
• ⚠ IT IS THE WRONG HEIGHT IN A SMALL GARDEN. ⭐ A 2.37 m post beside a path in a courtyard dominates it, and the light spills over boundaries that a 1.32 m post would keep inside.
• ⭐ THE FOOTPRINT GROWS WITH THE HEIGHT TOO — 380 mm square here against 290 on the 1.96 m version — ⭐ because a taller post needs a broader base. ⭐ Allow for it in a narrow bed.

⭐ Light falls off with the square of the distance — which cuts both ways

⭐ Raising the source from 1.96 to 2.37 m spreads the light over a wider area and reduces the intensity directly beneath. ⭐⭐ SO A TALLER POST GIVES BROADER, SOFTER COVERAGE AND A SHORTER POST GIVES A BRIGHTER, TIGHTER POOL. ⭐ For lighting a path to walk along, broader is better and fewer posts are needed. ⭐ For picking out a step, a gate or a change of level, tighter is better. ⭐ Choose the height from what the light has to do, not from what looks proportionate on a drawing.

⭐ One casting, seven arrangements

⭐ The same TURIN head serves as a wall bracket, pillar mount, post top, pendant, and on single, twin or triple-head posts. ⭐⭐ ON A PROPERTY THAT IS THE ARGUMENT FOR THE RANGE: a driveway with tall posts, an entry with a pillar mount and a porch with a wall bracket read as one scheme because they are literally the same lantern. ⭐ Specifying three different products for three positions is the common alternative and it always shows.

⭐ Die-cast aluminium, Italian casting, Australian powder coat

⭐ Die-cast aluminium with a moulded acrylic lens, cast in Italy and powder-coated in Australia. ⭐⭐ THE COATING IS THE PART THAT WEARS, AND ON A TALL POST THE VULNERABLE ZONE IS STILL THE BOTTOM 300 mm — ⭐ where mowers, whipper-snippers and car doors reach. ⭐ Aluminium under an intact coating is protected; a chip begins corrosion at that point. ⭐ Keep mulch and soil off the base and touch up chips when they appear rather than at the next repaint.

⭐ IP43 — and on a tall post the head shelters itself

• ⭐ IP43 covers spraying water up to 60° from vertical. ⛔ It does not cover driving rain, hosing, or a sprinkler playing on it.
• ⭐ ON A 2.37 m POST THAT MATTERS LESS THAN ON A LOW ONE — ⭐ the lantern is well above any sprinkler throw and the head shelters its own opening.
• ⚠ WHAT REMAINS IS WIND-DRIVEN RAIN, and a tall post is more exposed to it than a short one — ⭐ there is less around it to break the wind. ⭐ On an open frontage or a coastal site, expect water to find the lantern eventually and check the seals as part of any maintenance.
• ⭐ Still check the irrigation layout before setting the post — ⭐ a sprinkler aimed upward at a garden bed reaches further than people expect.

⭐ B22, no lamp, and the choice matters more at height

⭐ The lamp is not included, and inside a lightly-diffused acrylic lantern it is visible. ⭐⭐ AT 2.37 m THE LANTERN IS ABOVE EYE LEVEL AND SEEN FROM A DISTANCE, WHICH MAKES AN OPAL LAMP MORE IMPORTANT, NOT LESS. ⭐ A clear or filament lamp at that height is a bright point visible from the road and from neighbouring properties. ⭐ An opal B22 fills the lantern and reads as a glowing object. ⭐ Choose warm: on a garden or frontage post, cool white reads as institutional.
