DOMUS STRAP-TL TABLE LAMP 1 X E27

The Domus STRAP-TL is a table lamp — conical shade held by a leather strap, Ø160 mm, 520 mm tall, 1 × E27, 240 V, in matt black or matt white.

⭐ Its records agree, which is worth stating in this family

⭐ Sheet and record both say 25 W, as on the pendant. ⭐ The floor lamp and the wall bracket in the same family do not agree with themselves, so the two that do are the ones that establish what the family's real figure is. ⭐ 25 W across all four is what we have published. ⭐ In practice an E27 LED matching an old 60 W incandescent draws about 8 W, so the ceiling is well clear of anything sensible.

⭐ 520 mm — this is a desk lamp more than a bedside one

• ⭐ At 520 mm the shade sits low. ⭐⭐ ON A DESK OR A CONSOLE THAT IS RIGHT: the light lands on the surface where the work is, and the shade is below standing eyeline.
• ⚠ ON A BEDSIDE TABLE IT IS ON THE SHORT SIDE. ⭐ A 520 mm lamp on a 600 mm bedside puts the shade at about 1,120 mm, which is a little below the eye level of someone sitting up in bed — ⭐ so the light falls on the sheets rather than on the book. ⭐ It works, but the taller SANDS or a wall-mounted STRAP does the reading job better.
• ⭐ THE COMPARISON WORTH MAKING IS WITH THE WALL BRACKET. ⭐ On a narrow bedside the wall version frees the table entirely and puts the light at the right height; the table lamp uses the surface and sits lower. ⭐ For a bedside, the wall bracket is usually the better member of this family.

⭐ A cone open at both ends, at low height

⭐⭐ BECAUSE THE SHADE IS LOW, THE LAMP IS VISIBLE FROM MORE POSITIONS THAN ON A TALLER LAMP. ⭐ Someone seated at a desk looks slightly down at it; someone standing looks straight into the top of the cone. ⭐ An opal or frosted E27 handles both; a clear or filament lamp is a feature from above and a glare source from beside. ⭐ The lamp is not included. ⭐ On a desk, warm white at a modest output is more comfortable than a bright cool lamp — the surface is close and reflects a lot back.

⭐ Ø160 mm and a small footprint

⭐ The shade is 160 mm across and the base proportionally small. ⭐ THAT SUITS A CROWDED SURFACE — ⭐ a console with objects on it, a desk with a monitor, a shelf. ⚠ It also means the lamp is easy to knock, and a conical metal shade on a small base is not self-righting. ⭐ Put it where it is not in a reaching path.

⭐ Matt black or matt white

⭐ Both painted, so they hold their appearance. ⭐ On a desk, black reduces reflected glare from the inside of the shade; white bounces more light back onto the surface, which is brighter but can be dazzling at close range. ⭐ The leather strap is the detail that ties it to the family and reads warm against timber.
