The Domus PARIS chain pendant is a hung exterior lantern — 650 mm high, 170 mm wide, B22, 240 V, IP43, in five colours.

⭐ The PARIS range offers a curved arm the other families do not

• ⭐ The family prose lists the usual arrangements — wall bracket, pillar mount, post top, pendant, wall mounted — plus posts at three single heights and three twin heights.
• ⭐⭐ AND IT ADDS SOMETHING THE TURIN AND VIENNA RANGES DO NOT: a 2.4 m “curved arm” option on both the twin and triple-head posts.
• ⭐ A CURVED ARM CHANGES THE SILHOUETTE SUBSTANTIALLY. ⭐ Straight arms read as functional and geometric; a curved arm reads as a period fitting, because the curve is what the original gas standards had. ⭐ On a heritage frontage that is a meaningful difference.
• ⚠ THE CURVED-ARM POSTS ARE 2.4 m WHERE THE STRAIGHT TWIN GOES TO 2.47 m — ⭐ so the two are not interchangeable in a run, and mixing them along a drive would show as a 70 mm height difference plus a change of shape. ⭐ Pick one arm type for the whole property.

⭐ The one arrangement that needs a ceiling

• ⭐ Every other PARIS arrangement attaches to something vertical — a wall, a pier, a post. ⭐ This one hangs from something horizontal.
• ⭐⭐ SO IT IS THE ANSWER FOR COVERED OUTDOOR SPACES: a porch, a portico, a verandah, a covered entry. ⭐ Positions where a wall bracket has no wall in the right place and a post has no ground.
• ⭐ IT ALSO PUTS LIGHT WHERE PEOPLE STAND — ⭐ directly above a doorway rather than beside it, which lights the threshold, the lock and whoever is at the door evenly rather than from one side.
• ⚠ AT 650 mm OVERALL, MEASURE THE SOFFIT. ⭐ From a 2.7 m soffit the lantern bottom sits near 2.05 m, which is clear; ⚠ from a 2.4 m soffit it is near 1.75 m, which is head height for many people. ⭐ Porch soffits are often lower than the internal ceiling.

⭐ IP43, and why a pendant depends on its roof

• ⭐ IP4X keeps out wires and most insects; IPX3 covers spraying water to 60° from vertical. ⛔ Not driving rain.
• ⭐⭐ ON A PENDANT THAT IS THE BINDING CONSTRAINT, because a hanging lantern has no wall or body sheltering it from above — rain falls straight onto the top of it. ⭐ The brackets and posts in this family have geometry protecting them; a pendant does not.
• ⭐ WHICH IS WHY IT BELONGS UNDER COVER. ⭐ Under a soffit, the roof does the work the IP rating does not. ⛔ Do not hang it in an open position on the strength of the family being “exterior”.
• ⚠ THE 4 IN IP43 IS BETTER THAN THE VIENNA FAMILY'S 2 — ⭐ wires and insects excluded rather than only fingers, which on a garden lantern is the difference that decides whether it fills with insects.

⭐ Die-cast aluminium, made in Italy

⭐ Light die-cast aluminium with a moulded acrylic lens, cast in Italy and powder-coated in Australia. ⭐⭐ THE ACRYLIC LENS IS WHAT AGES: it yellows and clouds under UV rather than cracking, and the output falls gradually. ⭐ If the lantern looks dimmer than it used to and the lamp is new, the lens is the thing to check — ⚠ people usually replace the lamp twice first. ⭐ Replacement panels are available for these ranges, and replacing them keeps the original casting and its patina rather than putting a new finish beside weathered ones.

⭐ B22, no lamp, and opal is close to essential

⭐ The lamp is not included. ⭐⭐ A PENDANT IS THE ONE ARRANGEMENT WHERE PEOPLE LOOK UP INTO THE LANTERN, because it is above them. ⭐ A clear or filament lamp sits directly in the eye-line of anyone standing at the door and looking up — which is what people do while waiting for it to open. ⭐ An opal B22 fills the lantern and reads as a glowing object. ⭐ Warm rather than cool: at an entrance, cool white reads as institutional.
