Dusk LED Garden Spike Light

The DUSK MR16 garden spike light is a lamp-holder spike light — Ø58 mm, 12 V DC, MR16, 6 W, 500–550 lumens, 60° beam, IP65, in bronze or black.

• ⭐ The lamp is an MR16, a standard replaceable 12 V lamp. ⭐ Nearly every other spike light in this catalogue has an integrated LED sealed into the body.

  • ⭐ WHEN AN INTEGRATED SPIKE LIGHT FAILS, YOU REPLACE THE FITTING — ⭐ dig it out, disconnect it, fit a new one, re-aim it.
  • ⭐ WHEN THIS ONE FAILS, YOU CHANGE A LAMP. ⭐ The fitting, the cable, the connection and the aim all stay exactly as they were.
• ⭐ IT ALSO MEANS YOU CAN CHANGE THE BEAM AFTER INSTALLATION. ⭐⭐ MR16 LAMPS COME IN A RANGE OF BEAM ANGLES from about 10° to 60°, so a planting bed that has grown in can be re-aimed with a narrower lamp rather than a new fitting. ⭐ On a garden, which changes every year, that is a genuine advantage over a sealed unit.
• ⭐ AND IT IS WHY THE 5-year warranty IS CREDIBLE. ⭐ The part that wears out is the part you can replace, so the warranty covers the housing rather than the light source. ⭐ It is the longest warranty in this batch.

⚠ The trade: a lampholder is a maintenance point

• ⭐⭐ A SEALED FITTING HAS NOTHING TO CORRODE INSIDE. A LAMPHOLDER HAS TWO CONTACTS IN A DAMP GARDEN.
• ⭐ THE IP65 RATING PROTECTS IT, ⚠ but every lamp change breaks the seal and it is only as good as how it is reassembled. ⭐ Seat the gasket properly and check it has not perished before closing it up.
• ⭐ A SMEAR OF ELECTRICAL CONTACT GREASE ON THE PINS at each change is worth the ten seconds — ⭐ it is the difference between a lampholder that still works in five years and one that has gone green.
• ⚠ AND CHANGE LAMPS IN DRY WEATHER. ⭐ Opening a garden fitting in the rain puts water exactly where the rating exists to keep it out.

⭐ 12 V DC — and here the record matches

⭐ The sheet specifies a 12 V DC constant-voltage driver, wired in parallel. ⭐ This programme has found 12 products publishing a 240 V record on a low-voltage fitting; ⭐ this is not one of them. ⭐ Size the driver with headroom, wire in parallel so a failure does not propagate, and site it somewhere reachable. ⚠ AT 12 V, VOLTAGE DROP IS THE THING TO WATCH: the current is double what it would be at 24 V for the same power, so the drop is roughly four times as large. ⭐ On a long garden run that is the usual cause of the far fitting looking dimmer than the near one.

⭐ 60° beam and 500–550 lumens — a wash, not a spot

• ⭐ 500 lm at 3000 K, 550 at 4000 and 550 at 6500. ⭐ The 60° beam is wide for a spike light.
• ⭐⭐ THAT MAKES IT A SHRUB AND BED LIGHT RATHER THAN A TREE UPLIGHT. ⭐ A 60° beam at 1 m covers roughly a 1.2 m spread, which suits a shrub, a low wall or a planting group. ⚠ Uplighting a tall tree wants 15–24°, which is exactly what a replaceable MR16 lets you change to later.
• ⭐ USE 3000 K OUTDOORS. ⭐ It flatters foliage, bark, stone and brick, where 6500 K makes planting look grey and lifeless — and 3000 K is also the dimmest of the three at 500 lm.
• ⚠ AIM AWAY FROM SIGHT LINES. ⭐ A spike light visible from a window or a seating area is a glare source; the fitting should be seen in what it lights, not directly.

⚠ Its sheets are unverifiable, and what we did about it

⭐ Both datasheets held against this product are flagged unverifiable in our triage — they could not be confirmed as belonging to this SKU. ⭐⭐ SO WE CROSS-CHECKED THE FIGURES AGAINST THE PRODUCT RECORD RATHER THAN TAKING THEM ALONE, and they agree: 6 W, 60° beam, IP65, MR16, and the same three colour temperatures. ⭐ Two independent sources agreeing is what makes these figures usable despite the flag. ⚠ The lumen figures appear only on the sheet, so treat 500–550 lm as indicative rather than confirmed.
