The Domus TICK is an 8 W recessed LED downlight with a flat fascia frame — 750–800 lumens, IP44, Class II, 110° beam, Ø90–100 mm cutout, switchable 3000/4000/5700 K.

⭐⭐ TICK or TACK — the only difference is the frame

• ⭐ We compared every published figure on the two products:

• ⭐⭐ SO THE CHOICE BETWEEN THEM IS ENTIRELY ABOUT GLARE VERSUS PROFILE, AND NOTHING ELSE. ⭐ That is a rare thing in a catalogue and it makes the decision simple.
• ⭐ THE FLAT FASCIA sits almost flush with the ceiling. ⭐ It is the more discreet of the two — the ceiling reads as a plane with a light in it rather than a fitting with a recess. ⚠ The LED sits closer to the opening, so it is more visible from an angle.
• ⭐ THE TACK's DEEP-SET FRAME recesses the LED further back. ⭐ You see less of the source from across a room, at the cost of a visible ring of shadow around the aperture.

⭐ Which one to choose, and where

• ⭐ TICK (this one) SUITS positions where the fitting should disappear into the ceiling and nobody looks at it from a low angle — ⭐ hallways, walk-in robes, laundries, and ceilings where a flush plane is the design intent.
• ⭐ TACK SUITS positions with seating, or where the ceiling is low enough that people see into the aperture — ⭐ living rooms, bedrooms, anywhere people lie down or recline.
• ⭐⭐ THE HONEST TEST IS WHETHER ANYONE WILL LOOK UP AT IT. ⭐ If the answer is no, the flat fascia is cleaner and there is nothing to gain from the deep-set frame.
• ⭐ MIXING THEM IN ONE HOUSE IS PERFECTLY SENSIBLE — ⭐ TICK in circulation areas, TACK in living and sleeping rooms. ⚠ What does not work is mixing them in one room, where the different apertures are conspicuous.

⭐ A genuinely capable retrofit fitting

• ⭐ THE Ø90–100 mm CUTOUT IS A RANGE, not a single figure. ⭐ Older Australian downlights were cut at various diameters, and a fitting spanning 10 mm drops into most existing holes without patching.
• ⭐ AND IT IS CLASS II — no earth required. ⭐ Older lighting circuits frequently have no earth at the point, and a Class I fitting cannot legally go there without rewiring.
• ⭐⭐ THOSE TWO TOGETHER TURN A REWIRE INTO AN AFTERNOON'S WORK — ⭐ which on a halogen replacement across a whole house is the difference between a trade job and a project.
• ⭐ Measure two or three existing holes before ordering; a house is rarely consistent and the largest one governs.

⭐ The IP44 footnote, and what it actually says

⭐ The sheet reads “IP44 rating is from the underside of the downlight once installed into the ceiling.” ⭐⭐ THAT MEANS THE RATING APPLIES TO THE FACE YOU SEE FROM THE ROOM, NOT THE BODY ABOVE THE CEILING. ⭐ The visible side is splash-protected; the side in the ceiling cavity is not rated. ⭐ So it suits a bathroom ceiling — steam and splashing from below — but it is not protected against water arriving from above, which is what a roof leak or a burst pipe delivers. ⭐ It is a distinction worth reading rather than skipping.

⭐ Interchangeable fascias

⭐ The fitting ships with a white fascia; black and satin chrome are available separately and simply swap. ⭐ An electrician carries one product, a client who changes their mind at handover changes a fascia rather than a fitting, and a room restyled years later can have its fascias changed without touching the ceiling or the wiring. ⭐ Order them with the fittings if the finish is known — they are a separate line and easy to forget.

THE ONLY DIFFERENCE IS THE FRAME: this is a flat fascia and the TACK is an anti-glare deep-set frame. So the choice is entirely about glare versus profile and nothing else, which makes it simple. ⭐ THE HONEST TEST IS WHETHER ANYONE WILL LOOK UP AT IT — if not, the flat fascia is cleaner and there is nothing to gain from the deep-set version.
