Domus THOR-PRO 23W TRIO Dim 36° S/Mount

The Domus THOR-PRO-23 surface-mounted downlight is the same 23 W head in a surface body — CRI ≥90, 36° beam standard, switchable 3000/4000/5000 K, in white or black.

⭐ It exists for ceilings that cannot be cut

• ⭐ Concrete soffits, fire-rated ceilings, and ceilings with services immediately above. ⭐ In all three, a recessed fitting is either impossible or costs more in making good than the light costs.
• ⭐⭐ ON A FIRE-RATED CEILING IT IS A COMPLIANCE SIMPLIFICATION RATHER THAN A CONVENIENCE. ⭐ Cutting a penetration breaches the rating unless it is made good to the same standard, which for a downlight means a rated enclosure and an inspection. ⭐ Surface mounting removes the question.
• ⭐ IT IS ALSO THE ANSWER TO A SHALLOW VOID. ⭐ The recessed version's housing is 170 mm deep and needs somewhere to go; the surface version needs nothing above the ceiling.
• ⭐⭐ AND ON A FITOUT WITH MIXED CEILINGS, THE REAL ARGUMENT IS UNIFORMITY. ⭐ The same 23 W head is available recessed, surface and as a 3-circuit track head, sharing the same 62 mm cover and 170 mm housing — ⭐ so one light source can serve a plasterboard area, a concrete area and a display track, with the beam, colour and rendering identical throughout.

⭐ The black finish costs 14% here too

⭐ White gives 2,000 / 2,100 / 2,000 lm; black gives 1,700 / 1,800 / 1,750 — ⭐ a mean of 13.9%, the largest black/white gap measured in this catalogue. ⭐ On a scheme designed to a lux target that is roughly one fitting in seven. ⚠ IT IS NOT A GENERAL RULE THOUGH: the 15 W model in the same housing loses only 1.4%, and across five models in two families the gap runs from 0.2% to 13.9%. ⭐ Read it per model, and on this one design to the black figures if you are specifying black. ⭐⭐ ON A SURFACE FITTING THE FINISH IS ALSO MORE VISIBLE — ⭐ the body is seen, not just the aperture — so the choice carries more weight here than on the recessed version.

⭐ A visible cylinder — which changes how it is specified

• ⭐ 62 mm diameter, 170 mm long, powder-coated CNC aluminium. ⭐ Surface mounted, that is a slim cylinder projecting from the ceiling rather than a flush aperture.
• ⭐⭐ SO IT IS AN OBJECT AS WELL AS A LIGHT. ⭐ In a retail or hospitality fitout that is often wanted — a row of matched cylinders reads as deliberate industrial detailing. ⚠ In a residential space where the intention is invisible lighting, the recessed version is the right one.
• ⭐ ALIGNMENT MATTERS MORE THAN IT DOES RECESSED. ⭐ A recessed fitting that is 20 mm out of line is barely noticed; a projecting cylinder that is out of line is obvious. ⭐ Set them out from a datum rather than measuring each from the nearest wall.
• ⭐ At 170 mm long it also hangs into the room — ⭐ check head clearance in a low-ceilinged space and against anything that opens or gets carried through.

⭐ CRI ≥90, five beam angles, and flicker-free dimming

⭐ CRI ≥90 is the specification that earns this fitting its place in a shop — ⭐ fabric, food, timber and skin all read wrong under CRI 80. ⭐ Five beam angles — 15°, 24°, 36°, 45°, 60° — is unusual; most downlights offer one. ⭐ From a 3 m ceiling to a 1 m surface, a 36° beam lights about 1.3 m across and a 60° about 2.3 m. ⭐ And the flicker-free driver matters in retail beyond comfort: flicker is what makes phone footage of a shop look poor. ⭐ Confirm the dimmer type with us — a mismatched dimmer is the usual cause of flicker on an otherwise sound fitting.
