⭐⭐ The black finish costs 14% of the light — the largest gap we have measured

• ⭐⭐ A MEAN OF 13.9% IS WORTH DESIGNING AROUND. ⭐ On a retail scheme designed to a lux target, choosing black over white costs roughly one fitting in seven. ⭐ Budget for it or specify white.
• ⭐ BUT IT IS NOT A RULE YOU CAN CARRY TO OTHER PRODUCTS, AND THIS FAMILY PROVES IT:

• ⭐⭐ THE 15 W AND THE 23 W SHARE THE SAME 62 mm HOUSING AND DIFFER BY 12.5 POINTS. ⭐ That rules out fitting geometry as the explanation, just as the SLENDA sizes ruled out simple reflectance.
• ⭐ SO WE ARE NOT OFFERING A MECHANISM. ⭐ Across five models in two unrelated families the gap runs from 0.2% to 13.9%, and no single cause fits. ⭐ What we can say is that the published figures are real and must be read per model.
• ⭐ ON THIS ONE, DESIGN TO THE BLACK FIGURES IF YOU ARE SPECIFYING BLACK.

⭐ CRI ≥90 and five beam angles — a genuine retail specification

• ⭐ CRI ≥90 at 23 W is the reason to choose this over a general-purpose downlight. ⭐ In a shop, colour rendering is what makes stock look like itself — fabric, food, timber and skin all read wrong under CRI 80.
• ⭐⭐ AND FIVE BEAM ANGLES IS THE MORE UNUSUAL FEATURE: 15°, 24°, 36°, 45° and 60°, with 36° standard. ⭐ Most downlights offer one.
• ⭐ WHAT THE CHOICE ACTUALLY DOES:
  • ⭐ 15° is a spot — a single object, a plinth, a piece of art. ⚠ Unforgiving if the aim is even slightly off.
  • ⭐ 24° to 36° is display lighting — a shelf bay, a table, a counter run.
  • ⭐ 45° to 60° is general lighting — a circulation area or an office.
• ⭐ THE USEFUL RULE: from a 3 m ceiling to a 1 m display surface, a 36° beam lights a circle about 1.3 m across and a 60° beam about 2.3 m. ⭐ Choose the angle from the object, not the room. ⭐ Tell us the mounting height and what you are lighting and we will pick it.

⭐ Ø100 mm cutout, and one family across three mountings

⭐ The same 23 W head is available recessed (this), surface mounted and as a 3-circuit track head — ⭐ with the same 62 mm diameter cover and 170 mm housing throughout. ⭐⭐ THAT IS MORE USEFUL THAN IT SOUNDS ON A FITOUT. ⭐ A shop with a plasterboard ceiling in one area, a concrete soffit in another and track over the display run can use one light source throughout, so the beam, the colour and the rendering are identical everywhere. ⭐ Mixing three different fittings to solve three mounting problems is the common alternative and it shows.

⭐ Dimmable, and flicker-free

⭐ Fully dimmable with a suitable dimmer. ⭐ The family description also emphasises stable, flicker-free operation — ⭐ which in a retail setting matters beyond comfort, because flicker is what makes phone and camera footage of a shop look poor. ⭐ Anywhere customers photograph the product or the space, it is worth specifying. ⭐ Confirm the dimmer type with us before ordering; a mismatched dimmer is the usual cause of flicker on an otherwise sound fitting.
