The Domus TACK is an 8 W recessed LED downlight — 750–800 lumens, IP44, Class II, 110° beam, Ø90–100 mm cutout, switchable 3000/4000/5700 K, with interchangeable fascias.

⭐ The sheet reads: “IP44 rating is from the underside of the downlight once installed into the ceiling.” ⭐ We have flagged that exact wording on a floor lamp and on surface-mounted battens, where it is boilerplate carried across from a downlight sheet. ⭐⭐ HERE IT IS ON AN ACTUAL RECESSED DOWNLIGHT, AND IT IS BOTH CORRECT AND IMPORTANT.

• ⭐ WHAT IT ACTUALLY MEANS: the IP44 applies to the face you can see from the room, not to the body above the ceiling. ⭐ The visible side is splash-protected; the side in the ceiling cavity is not rated at all.
• ⭐ SO IT IS SUITABLE IN A BATHROOM CEILING — ⭐ steam and splashing from below are what it is protected against. ⚠ It is not protected against water reaching it from above, which is what a leaking roof or a burst pipe in the ceiling space delivers.
• ⭐ THAT DISTINCTION IS WHY THE FOOTNOTE EXISTS, and it is worth reading rather than skipping — ⭐ it is the difference between a compliant bathroom downlight and a misunderstanding.

⭐ Ø90–100 mm cutout — a range, which is unusual and useful

• ⭐ Most downlights state one cutout diameter. ⭐ This accepts anything from 90 to 100 mm.
• ⭐⭐ THAT MAKES IT A RETROFIT FITTING. ⭐ Older Australian downlights were cut at a range of diameters, and a fitting that covers a 10 mm span drops into most existing holes without patching or re-cutting.
• ⭐ ON A HOUSE BEING RE-LAMPED FROM HALOGEN, that single property often decides the product — ⭐ the alternative is filling and re-cutting every hole, which is a plasterer and a painter on top of the electrician.

⭐ Class II — no earth required

⭐ Interchangeable fascias — one product, three finishes

⭐ A 110° beam is wide. ⭐ From a 2.4 m ceiling it lights a circle roughly 4 m across at floor level, so fittings can be spaced generously and still give even coverage. ⭐ THAT IS THE RIGHT CHARACTER FOR GENERAL ROOM LIGHTING — ⭐ bathrooms, hallways, bedrooms — and the wrong one for display, where a narrow beam and a higher CRI are what create the effect. ⭐ CRI ≥80 fits that purpose: adequate for living, not for colour judgement. ⚠ Its 35,000-hour life is also lower than the 50,000 common elsewhere in the Domus range — at four hours a day that is about 24 years.
