Domus STREAM 6-in-1 Premium Slimline Bathroom Heater

⭐⭐ 2,250 W is 94% of a standard lighting circuit — it needs its own

• ⭐ 2,250 W at 240 V is 9.4 A. ⭐ A standard 10 A lighting circuit carries 2,400 W.
• ⭐⭐ SO THIS ONE APPLIANCE IS 94% OF THAT CIRCUIT BEFORE A SINGLE LIGHT IS CONNECTED TO IT. ⭐ It is not a lighting product electrically, whatever category it sits in — it is a heater with a light in it.
• ⛔ NOTHING ON THE LISTING SAYS IT NEEDS A DEDICATED CIRCUIT. ⭐ It plainly does, and it is the kind of thing that gets discovered at rough-in when the cable is already run.
• ⭐ TELL YOUR ELECTRICIAN BEFORE THE WALLS CLOSE. ⭐ Adding a circuit at rough-in is routine; adding one afterwards means chasing walls.
• ⭐ The load is almost entirely the heating elements — ⭐ the fan motor is 60 W and the light a few more. ⭐ Running the fan and light alone draws almost nothing; it is only when the heat is on that the circuit is loaded.

⭐ IPX2 — and what the X actually means

• ⭐ The rating is IPX2, not IP42 or IP24. ⭐ THE X MEANS INGRESS OF SOLIDS WAS NOT TESTED — not that there is no protection, but that no figure is claimed.
• ⭐ THE 2 MEANS PROTECTION AGAINST DRIPPING WATER when the unit is tilted up to 15°. ⭐ That is the lowest water rating in common use for a bathroom product.
• ⭐⭐ WHAT THAT PERMITS IS A CEILING POSITION OUTSIDE THE SHOWER ZONE. ⭐ It is not a fitting for directly above a shower or a bath. ⭐ In a bathroom the zones are defined by distance from the water source, and this belongs in the outer one.
• ⭐ THAT IS NORMAL FOR THIS CLASS OF PRODUCT rather than a deficiency — ⭐ a heater needs airflow through it, and a fully sealed heater is a contradiction. ⭐ But it does mean the position is decided by the rating, not by where the heat would be most welcome. ⭐ Confirm the zone with your electrician against the current wiring rules.

⭐ 500 m³/h and ≤48 dB — the two numbers that decide whether people use it

• ⭐ 500 m³/h is a substantial extraction rate. ⭐ A typical bathroom of about 10 m³ is a complete air change roughly every 70 seconds — ⭐ which is what clears steam quickly enough to stop it reaching the ceiling and the mirror.
• ⭐⭐ ≤48 dB IS THE MORE IMPORTANT FIGURE, BECAUSE IT DETERMINES WHETHER THE FAN GETS TURNED ON. ⭐ An extraction fan people find unpleasant is a fan that runs for two minutes instead of twenty, and mould follows. ⭐ 48 dB is roughly the level of quiet conversation — noticeable but not intrusive.
• ⭐ THE DUCT IS WHAT ACTUALLY DELIVERS THAT. ⭐ 150 mm ducting, kept short and straight, is the difference between the published figures and something much worse. ⚠ Every bend costs airflow and adds noise, and a long flexible duct with sags in it can halve the effective extraction. ⭐ A 3 m flexible duct and an exterior grille are included.

⭐ The light: 1,500 to 1,850 lumens across three colour temperatures

⭐ 3000 K gives 1,500 lm, 4000 K gives 1,850 and 5000 K gives 1,750. ⭐ That is enough to be a bathroom's main light in most cases, which is worth knowing because it changes the rest of the plan — if this unit lights the room, the ceiling needs nothing else except perhaps a vanity light. ⭐ CRI ≥80 is adequate for a bathroom but not for close colour work; if someone does makeup in this room, a separate vanity light at higher CRI is worth having.

⭐ 595 × 280 mm cutout — check it early

⭐ The cutout is 595 × 280 mm and the fascia is 615 × 315 mm — ⭐ so the fascia covers 20 mm each way, which is not a lot of tolerance. ⭐⭐ A 595 mm cutout is longer than the gap between many ceiling joists at 450 mm centres — ⭐ so it may need a joist trimmed and noggins added, which is a framing job rather than an electrical one. ⭐ CHECK THE JOIST DIRECTION AND SPACING BEFORE ORDERING, ⭐ not after the ceiling is up.
