The Domus SANDS-TL is a timber table lamp — open-slat natural plywood, 320 × 320 × 540 mm, 1 × E27, 240 V, 25 W maximum.
⭐ At 540 mm this is a substantial table lamp, and the height is the figure most worth checking. ⭐ ON A BEDSIDE TABLE the useful test is whether the bottom of the shade sits near the eye level of someone sitting up in bed — ⭐ too high and you look straight at the lamp; too low and it lights the table rather than the book. ⭐ A 540 mm lamp on a 600 mm bedside puts the shade at around 1,140 mm, which is about right for most beds. ⭐ ON A SIDEBOARD at 850 mm it will read as a floor-standing element rather than an accessory — ⭐ which can be exactly right in a hallway, and overbearing in a small room.
⭐ Natural plywood is the only finish, and it is genuine timber rather than a print. ⭐ That means it will warm in tone over time, particularly in sunlight — ⭐ and it means each lamp's grain is slightly different. ⭐ If you are buying a pair for matching bedsides, they will be similar rather than identical, which is usually read as a feature. ⚠ Away from direct sun the change is slow; on a windowsill it is noticeable within a year.
⭐ The SANDS series includes a matching pendant. ⭐ Using the table lamp and the pendant in one space gives a coherent look that a single piece cannot — ⭐ the same slat language at two scales and two heights. ⭐ It works particularly well where a pendant over a dining table is echoed by a lamp on a nearby sideboard. ⭐ Ask us about the pendant if the scheme has room for both.
⭐ The holder accepts up to 25 W. ⚠ ON A TIMBER SHADE THAT CEILING IS NOT JUST ELECTRICAL. ⭐ Timber and heat are a poor combination over years, and an open-slat shade sits closer to the lamp than a fabric one would. ⭐ A modern LED at 8 to 10 W will give plenty of light for a table lamp and run cool — ⭐ there is no reason to go near the maximum, and good reason not to.

Open-slat natural plywood table lamp. 320 × 320 × 540 mm. 1 × E27, 25 W maximum, lamp not included. 220–240 V. IP20. Matching pendant available. 1-year warranty. ⭐ AN OPEN-SLAT SHADE MAKES THE LAMP CHOICE STRUCTURAL RATHER THAN COSMETIC. A clear or filament lamp throws a hard-edged pattern and glares through the gaps at eye level; an opal lamp throws a soft pattern and no glare, which for a bedside or living room is usually the better answer. ⭐ AND THE EFFECT DEPENDS ON POSITION: against a plain wall the slat pattern becomes part of the room; mid-table with nothing behind it, most of that is lost. ⚠ Stay well below the 25 W maximum — timber and heat are a poor combination over years, and 8 to 10 W of LED is plenty.
Supplied and supported by Lights For You.
It lets light through the gaps, so the lamp casts a pattern onto the surfaces around it as well as lighting them. A solid shade contains the light and throws it up and down; this one puts the slat pattern into the room.
Against a wall. On a sideboard or a bedside table with a plain surface behind it, the pattern becomes part of the room. In the middle of a table with nothing behind it, most of that effect is lost — it still works as a lamp, but you are paying for something you cannot see.
It is structural rather than cosmetic here. A clear or filament lamp throws hard-edged shadows and a strong pattern — dramatic, and glary if the lamp is visible through a gap at eye level. An opal or frosted lamp throws a soft pattern and no glare, which for a bedside or a living room is usually the better answer. The lamp is not included, so it is your decision; tell us the position and we will suggest one.
Usually not. The useful test is whether the bottom of the shade sits near the eye level of someone sitting up in bed — too high and you look straight at the lamp, too low and it lights the table rather than the book. A 540mm lamp on a 600mm bedside puts the shade at around 1,140mm, which is about right for most beds.
8 to 10 watts of LED. The holder accepts up to 25W, but on a timber shade that ceiling is not just electrical — timber and heat are a poor combination over years, and an open-slat shade sits closer to the lamp than a fabric one would. A modern LED at 8 to 10W gives plenty of light for a table lamp and runs cool. There is no reason to go near the maximum and good reason not to.
They will be similar rather than identical. Natural plywood is genuine timber rather than a print, so each lamp's grain differs slightly — which is usually read as a feature on a pair of bedsides. It will also warm in tone over time, slowly away from direct sun and noticeably within a year on a windowsill.
Yes, the SANDS series includes one. Using the table lamp and the pendant in one space gives a coherent look that a single piece cannot — the same slat language at two scales and two heights. It works particularly well where a pendant over a dining table is echoed by a lamp on a nearby sideboard.
