Wire guard or diffuser?

A durability decision rather than a styling one. The rule is simple: if anything in the space moves at height, take the guard. A carpark has roof racks and raised trays, a garage has ladders, a storeroom has stock being lifted onto racking — and all of those meet a batten at exactly its mounting height. If struck, a guarded fitting takes a scuff where a diffused one takes a cracked diffuser.

Why does that matter more on an emergency fitting?

Because the failure is silent. A broken ordinary batten is a dark patch someone reports the same day. A broken emergency batten is a compliance failure nobody notices until a test — it may still work perfectly on mains and fail only when the power actually goes out. So the guard here is not protecting a light; it is protecting a safety system.

What is the trade-off?

Slight shadowing from the cage, and a more industrial look. In a carpark or plant room neither is a real cost. In a corridor or an office the diffuser gives cleaner, more even light and looks better, and nothing is likely to hit it.

What do I need to know about the emergency function?

Three things, and none of them is published. The duration, which is what a compliance schedule needs. The battery type and life, which is shorter than the fitting's — so plan for replacement rather than assuming the emergency function lasts as long as the light. And that emergency fittings require periodic testing.

Who needs to know about the testing?

Whoever maintains the building — they have to be told the fittings are there and where the test point is. It is a handover item rather than an installation one, and the most often missed. It is the reason emergency fittings quietly stop being compliant a few years into a building's life.

Which sensor for a carpark?

Dimming. On/off leaves the space fully dark and switches to full output once you are already in it, so you are judging a kerb or a ramp in the moment before it triggers. The dimming sensor holds a low level and lifts on presence, and saves nearly as much energy because the standing level is a fraction of full output.

Is there an accessory I need?

SENSOR-INT-01, sold separately, and required to change any default setting or programme either sensor model. Order it with the first batch — a sensor left on factory defaults is the commonest complaint about sensor lighting.

Warranties

For all warranty claims please ensure you have your proof of purchase at hand, an invoice from your electrician from the installation and check the faulty product is within the applicable warranty period. Warranty is replacement only.

Lights For You is not responsible for damages caused by unprofessional installation, modified products or manipulated by the customer or by any other person not authorised by the manufacturer; as well as by improper use, manipulation and/or short circuits, apparent signs of improper treatment.

Faulty items: lodge warranty directly with the brand (manufacturer). Keep proof of purchase.

Damaged or Missing Items

Notification of any damages or missing items must be received by Lights For You within seven (7) days of receipt of the product. Please email photos to ashfield@lightsforyou.com.au.

If the product is to be repaired or replaced, it must correspond to the one originally sent by Lights For You and the customer must include the delivery note and/or invoice.

Returns

Change of Mind Returns

  • Customers who wish to return a product due to a change of mind or cancelled order may do so within thirty (30) days of receipt.
  • The customer is responsible for the shipping costs for a change of mind return, irrespective of any free, discounted or any other type of shipping promotion that may have been applicable at the time of your order. This includes any costs you incur for us shipping the product to you in the first place and the cost of shipping the product back to us.

Cancellations

Customers who wish to cancel all or part of an order due to change of mind or incorrectly ordered may do subject to cancelling in within 12 hours, during business hours from time of purchase. Once products have been shipped, you cannot cancel them.
