The Domus NOVA-17 SM is a surface-mounted aluminium LED profile, 17 × 7 mm in section and 3 metres long, supplied with an opal diffuser and end caps, in anodised aluminium, black or white.

Domus does not hold this profile on a shelf. It is made to order and cut to the length you need, and no standard lead time is published for it.

• ⭐ Cut to length is the reason to want it. A profile supplied at your exact run length has no joints in it — and on a continuous lit line a joint is the thing the eye finds.
• ⛔ Confirm the lead time and availability with us before you order, not after. Domus asks for that specifically on this product, and a cut-to-order item cannot be hurried once it is in production.
• ⚠ Measure the run before ordering, not after the ceiling is closed. A cut-to-length profile is made to your figure; if the figure is wrong there is no trimming it back into stock.
• ⚠ A made-to-order cut is normally not returnable the way a standard length is. Ask us to confirm the terms with your order.

Why a profile at all, rather than sticking the strip to the surface

• ✅ Heat. An aluminium channel is a heatsink. LED strip run bare against plasterboard or timber runs hotter, and heat is what shortens strip life and shifts its colour over time.
• ✅ The diffuser. An opal cover turns a line of LEDs into a line of light. Even with a dotless COB strip it softens the edge and hides the tape and the solder joints.
• ✅ It protects the strip from knocks, cleaning and curious fingers — which matters under a cupboard or along a handrail.
• ✅ It makes the installation look built rather than added. Adhesive strip on a bare surface is what people regret.

Surface mounted — where the 17 × 7 mm section suits

• 7 mm deep is very shallow. ✅ It sits almost flat, which is what you want on the underside of a cupboard, along a shelf edge, or on the face of a joinery reveal.
• 17 mm wide reads as a thin line rather than a channel.
• ✅ Surface mount means no routing — it screws or bonds to the surface, so it suits existing joinery and retrofits where a recessed profile would mean cutting a groove.
• ⚠ A shallow profile diffuses less. The closer the diffuser sits to the LEDs, the harder it is to hide them — which is why a dotless COB strip is the sensible partner for a section this slim.

Working with 3-metre lengths

• It is supplied in 3 m lengths, which is a shipping and handling consideration as much as a design one — a 3 m extrusion does not go in a car boot.
• Aluminium cuts cleanly with a mitre saw and a fine blade. ⚠ Deburr the cut end before the diffuser goes in, or it will scar.
• ⚠ Each cut length needs its own end caps. Two 1.5 m runs from one length need four caps, not two. Tell us the run layout and we will count the caps.
• ⚠ Plan the joins with the strip's cut increments. A COB strip cuts every 25 mm, so the profile lengths and the strip sections should be set out together, not separately.

Choosing the finish

• Anodised aluminium — the default, and it disappears against most metal and stone.
• Black — against dark joinery, and it reads as a shadow line when unlit.
• White — against white cabinetry and painted plasterboard, where it is meant not to be seen at all.
