MIRROR-20 Wall Vanity or Picture Light

The Domus MIRROR-20 is a 1,140 mm tubular wall light — 20 W, 2,100–2,300 lumens, IP40, 120° beam, switchable 3000/4000/5700 K, in black, chrome, satin chrome or white.

⭐ A family that scales cleanly — which is rarer than it should be

• ⭐⭐ THREE SIZES, THREE WATTAGES, AND EFFICACY CONSTANT WITHIN 2%. ⭐ The lengths step by exactly 280 mm each time.
• ⭐ THAT MATTERS BECAUSE IT MEANS THE FIGURES CAN BE TRUSTED AND INTERPOLATED. ⭐ This programme has found families where the middle size is dimmer than the small one, where a sheet names the wrong model, and where a sibling's dimension has been copied across. ⭐ This one is internally consistent in every published field we can check.
• ⭐ SO CHOOSE ON LENGTH, NOT ON OUTPUT. ⭐ The three deliver the same light per millimetre; the only real question is what the fitting has to span.

⭐ Sizing it to a mirror — the rule that matters

• ⭐⭐ A VANITY LIGHT SHOULD BE ABOUT TWO-THIRDS TO THREE-QUARTERS THE WIDTH OF THE MIRROR BELOW IT. ⭐ Shorter looks undersized; a light wider than its mirror looks like a mistake.
• ⭐ SO THE 1,140 mm MIRROR-20 SUITS A MIRROR OF ROUGHLY 1,500–1,700 mm — ⭐ a double vanity. ⭐ The 860 mm suits about 1,150–1,300 mm and the 580 mm suits about 750–900 mm.
• ⭐ MOUNT IT ABOVE THE MIRROR RATHER THAN ON IT, at roughly 1.9–2.0 m to the centre. ⚠ Too high and the light skims the top of a face; too low and it is in the eye-line of anyone tall.
• ⚠ A SINGLE LIGHT ABOVE A MIRROR CASTS DOWNWARD SHADOWS UNDER THE BROW, NOSE AND CHIN. ⭐ That is inherent to top lighting, not a fault in the fitting — if the mirror is used for shaving or makeup, a pair of vertical lights either side is the better arrangement, or add them alongside this one.

⚠ CRI ≥80 — the one specification to weigh for a vanity

• ⭐ CRI ≥80 is adequate for general lighting. ⭐⭐ IT IS THE MINIMUM YOU WOULD WANT AT A MIRROR, WHICH IS THE ONE PLACE IN A HOUSE WHERE PEOPLE JUDGE COLOUR ON THEIR OWN FACE.
• ⚠ SKIN TONES ARE WHAT LOW-CRI LIGHT RENDERS WORST, ⭐ because the deep reds that give skin its warmth are exactly what a cheap phosphor under-represents.
• ⭐ IF MAKEUP IS APPLIED AT THIS MIRROR, IT IS WORTH KNOWING that a CRI 90+ fitting will render it noticeably differently — and that makeup matched under CRI 80 light will look different outdoors.
• ⭐ THE COLOUR SETTING HELPS MORE THAN THE CRI HERE. ⭐ 4000 K is the usual right answer at a mirror: 3000 K is flattering but misleading, and 5700 K is accurate but unkind.

⭐ IP40 — and what that permits in a bathroom

⭐ IP4X keeps out objects over 1 mm; IPX0 means no water protection at all. ⭐⭐ SO DESPITE BEING SOLD AS A VANITY LIGHT, THIS IS NOT A WET-AREA FITTING. ⚠ It must go outside the zones where water may reach it, which your electrician will confirm against the current wiring rules. ⭐ Above a basin mirror on a dry wall is normally fine; ⛔ over a bath or within a shower enclosure is not. ⭐ The solids rating is the useful half: IP4X keeps out the dust and lint that would otherwise settle inside a tubular diffuser and show as shadows.

⭐ Adjustable knuckles and a tubular diffuser

⭐ A ridged aluminium body with a tubular opal-frost polycarbonate diffuser and chrome adjustable knuckles. ⭐⭐ THE KNUCKLES ARE WHY IT WORKS AS A PICTURE LIGHT AS WELL AS A VANITY LIGHT: the tube rotates, so the 120° beam can be aimed at a wall below rather than straight out. ⭐ Set the aim on site with the light on, not from the ladder before wiring — a few degrees changes where the wash lands. ⭐ The colour is set by a dip switch on the side end cap, so it is accessible without dismantling the fitting. ⛔ Not dimmable — do not put it on a dimmer circuit.

So choose on LENGTH rather than output — the three deliver the same light per millimetre, and the only real question is what the fitting has to span. A vanity light should be about two-thirds to three-quarters the width of the mirror below it, which puts this 1,140 mm fitting on a mirror of roughly 1,500 to 1,700 mm. ⚠ NOTE IP40 MEANS NO WATER PROTECTION AT ALL despite the vanity name — above a basin mirror on a dry wall is normally fine, over a bath is not.
