MIRROR-10 Wall Vanity or Picture Light

The Domus MIRROR-10 is a 580 mm tubular wall light — 10 W, 1,040–1,180 lumens, IP40, 120° beam, switchable 3000/4000/5700 K, in black, chrome, satin chrome or white.

⚠ The size most often specified too short

• ⭐⭐ A VANITY LIGHT SHOULD BE ABOUT TWO-THIRDS TO THREE-QUARTERS THE WIDTH OF THE MIRROR BELOW IT. ⭐ 580 mm suits a mirror of roughly 750–900 mm.
• ⚠ THAT IS A SMALL MIRROR — a powder room, a compact ensuite, a guest bathroom. ⭐ On a standard 1,200 mm vanity mirror this fitting will look undersized, ⭐ and the MIRROR-15 at 860 mm is the one that suits.
• ⭐ IT IS THE COMMONEST SIZING MISTAKE WITH VANITY LIGHTS, because people choose on output or price rather than on proportion. ⭐ Measure the mirror first, then pick the fitting.
• ⭐ THE OUTPUT WILL NOT BE THE CONSTRAINT. ⭐ At 1,040 lm this lights a small bathroom perfectly well — ⚠ the reason to go longer is proportion, not brightness.

⭐ Where the small size is actually the right choice

• ⭐ ABOVE A NARROW MIRROR IN A POWDER ROOM, ⭐ where a longer fitting would overhang.
• ⭐⭐ AS A PICTURE LIGHT, WHERE 580 mm IS THE MOST USEFUL LENGTH OF THE THREE. ⭐ The chrome knuckles let the tube rotate so the 120° beam aims down the wall, and most framed artworks are better served by a 580 mm wash than by a 1,140 mm one.
• ⭐ IN A PAIR, MOUNTED VERTICALLY EITHER SIDE OF A MIRROR. ⭐⭐ THAT IS THE ARRANGEMENT THAT ACTUALLY LIGHTS A FACE, because the light arrives from both sides at eye level rather than from above — and at 580 mm the proportions work vertically where the longer sizes do not. ⚠ Check the fitting is rated for vertical mounting with us before specifying it that way.
• ⭐ OVER A SHELF, A BAR OR A NARROW WORKTOP — ⭐ anywhere a linear wash is wanted in a short run.

⭐ The family scales cleanly, so the small one is not compromised

⭐ 10 W producing 1,040 lm is 104 lm/W; the 15 W gives 106 and the 20 W 105. ⭐⭐ EFFICACY IS CONSTANT WITHIN 2% ACROSS ALL THREE, AND THE LENGTHS STEP BY EXACTLY 280 mm. ⭐ So the smallest is not a cheaper engine in a shorter tube — it is the same light per millimetre. ⭐ That is worth stating because it is not always true: this programme has found families where the small size is the least efficient, and one where the middle size is dimmer than the small one.

⚠ IP40 is not a wet-area rating

⭐ IP4X keeps out objects over 1 mm; IPX0 means no water protection at all. ⭐⭐ DESPITE THE VANITY NAME, IT CANNOT GO WHERE WATER MAY REACH IT. ⭐ Above a basin mirror on a dry wall is normally fine; ⛔ over a bath or in a shower enclosure is not. ⚠ Confirm the zone with your electrician against the current wiring rules. ⭐ In a small powder room the distances are shorter, so the zone question is more likely to bite than in a large bathroom — worth checking early.

⭐ CRI ≥80, the colour setting, and shadows

• ⭐ CRI ≥80 is the minimum you would want at a mirror — ⭐ the one place people judge colour on their own face, and skin tones are what low-CRI light renders worst.
• ⭐ 4000 K IS THE USUAL RIGHT ANSWER AT A MIRROR. ⚠ 3000 K is flattering but misleading about how you will look outdoors; 5700 K is accurate but unkind. ⭐ Set by a dip switch on the side end cap, so try both in place.
• ⚠ A SINGLE LIGHT ABOVE A MIRROR ALWAYS SHADOWS THE BROW, NOSE AND CHIN. ⭐ Inherent to top lighting rather than a fault — which is the argument for using two of these vertically instead.
• ⛔ Not dimmable — do not put it on a dimmer circuit.

On a standard 1,200 mm vanity mirror it will look undersized, and the 860 mm MIRROR-15 is the one that suits. The output will not be the constraint: at 1,040 lumens this lights a small bathroom perfectly well, so THE REASON TO GO LONGER IS PROPORTION RATHER THAN BRIGHTNESS. ⭐ WHERE 580 mm IS GENUINELY THE RIGHT CHOICE is as a picture light — the knuckles let the tube aim down a wall, and most framed artworks are better served by a 580 mm wash than a 1,140 mm one.
