A suggestion, not a specification. A calculator can get it wrong — have a licensed electrician confirm the driver, the total load and the wiring before you order.
The Domus DUSK-SPIKE-MR11 is a solid brass garden spike light — 3 W at 12 V DC, IP65, with a replaceable MR11 lamp, a 38° beam and CRI ≥80. Ø41 mm. Bronze or black.
Solid brass garden spike light. Ø41 mm. IP65. 3 W, 12 V DC. Replaceable MR11 lamp, 3000 K, 240 lm. CRI ≥80. 38° beam. 35,000 hrs. 2 m cable. Water STOP cable joint. Bronze or black. ⛔ Not dimmable. ✅ Warranty 5 years. ⛔ A 12 V DC constant-voltage driver is required and NOT included — wire in parallel. ⛔ Its datasheet suggests a 6000 K replacement lamp for a 3000 K fitting — ask us before ordering a spare.
Supplied and supported by Lights For You.
Ask us before ordering, because the datasheet's own suggestion looks wrong. It reads "Suggested Replacement Lamps: KEY-MR11-3-6000K 65017" — but this fitting is 3000K and that lamp is named as 6000K, so following the suggestion would take the light from warm white to cold white, which on garden planting is a completely different result. It may be a family name with a 3000K option rather than a fixed part; we have not assumed either way. We will confirm a matching 3000K MR11 for you.
Beam width, mostly. This MR11 has a 38° accent beam from a Ø41mm head — it picks out a single specimen plant, a sculpture or a tree trunk and leaves the surroundings dark, which is what makes a garden look composed rather than floodlit. The MR16 is 60° from a Ø58mm head at more than double the output, for shrubs and wide beds. This one is also more discreet by day: Ø41mm disappears into planting where Ø58mm reads as hardware.
It is shorter than almost everything else in this catalogue, which mostly quotes 50,000 — but it matters far less than it looks, because the lamp is replaceable. On a sealed fitting 35,000 hours is the life of the product; here it is the life of a part you can change. At four hours a night it is about 24 years, so in practice it is a re-lamping interval rather than a replacement date.
No — a 12V DC constant-voltage LED driver is required and not supplied, wired in parallel. At 3W each these are the lightest load in the DUSK range, so twenty fittings is 60W and you want a 100W driver with headroom. Volt drop still applies on a long run at 12V, so tell us the layout and we will size the driver and the cable together.
For what it is designed to do, yes. A 38° beam concentrates the light, so 240 lumens on a single upright subject — a specimen plant, a trunk, a sculpture — is exactly enough and looks deliberate. On a large shrub or a wide bed it will look thin, and the MR16 version at 500–550lm over 60° is the right fitting there.
A sealed cable joint, specified on the datasheet. It is worth knowing about because the joint is where a garden lighting installation usually fails — water tracks into an unsealed connection long before it gets into a properly rated fitting. Confirm it is included in your parts list; on a buried run it is the difference between an installation that lasts and one that fails at the connection.
Better than most in this range, actually. It records the material, the beam angle, the colour temperature, the IP rating and a five-year warranty — where its MR16 sibling records none of the wattage, colour temperature, output or material. The one untidy thing is its web address, which is truncated mid-word ("driver-require"), but that is cosmetic rather than harmful.
