This is a 1,800 mm downrod and wiring loom for a Domus ceiling fan, in black or white.

  • Twice the length of the 900 mm rods in this range.
  • ✅ It belongs in a genuinely tall space — a double-height living room, a warehouse conversion, a cathedral ceiling, a void over a stairwell. Roughly a 4 m ceiling and above.
  • ⛔ On anything under about 3.5 m it will put the blades near head height. Work it out before ordering: ceiling height, minus 1.8 m of rod, minus the fan body, is where the blades sit.
  • ⚠ Australian standards set a minimum blade clearance above floor level. Your electrician will apply it — but on a rod this long it is the first thing to check, not the last.
Why a long rod is a performance decision, not just a drop
  • A fan needs air above it as well as below. Mounted close to a high ceiling it recirculates the same air and moves noticeably less of it — and it is also too far from the people it is meant to cool.
  • ✅ Bringing the fan down into the occupied zone is the whole point. A fan at 4 m does very little for someone sitting at 1 m.
  • ⚠ But a long rod amplifies any imbalance. Wobble that would be imperceptible on a short drop becomes visible on 1.8 m, and the loads at the fixing point are higher because they act through a longer lever.
  • ✅ Balance the blades carefully at commissioning, and fix into structure — never into plasterboard alone.
The wiring loom is part of the package
  • ✅ A longer rod needs a longer loom, made to length with the correct connectors at each end — which is why this is sold as a pair rather than as a bare tube.
  • ⛔ Do not extend a fan's wiring by splicing. A joined cable inside a rotating assembly is not a repair worth making, and on a 1.8 m drop it is a long way from anywhere accessible.

Will it fit my fan?

Send us the model number and we will confirm with Domus. No source we hold lists the compatible fans, the coupling type or the rod diameter, and there is no datasheet — the record holds two fields. Downrods are rarely interchangeable between ranges because the coupling, the diameter and the loom connectors are all specific to the fan.

How high does my ceiling need to be?

Roughly 4 metres and above. This is twice the length of the 900 mm rods in this range, so on anything under about 3.5 m it will put the blades near head height. Work it out before ordering: ceiling height, minus 1.8 m of rod, minus the fan body, is where the blades sit — and Australian standards set a minimum blade clearance above floor level that your electrician will apply.

Warranties

For all warranty claims please ensure you have your proof of purchase at hand, an invoice from your electrician from the installation and check the faulty product is within the applicable warranty period. Warranty is replacement only.

Lights For You is not responsible for damages caused by unprofessional installation, modified products or manipulated by the customer or by any other person not authorised by the manufacturer; as well as by improper use, manipulation and/or short circuits, apparent signs of improper treatment.

Faulty items: lodge warranty directly with the brand (manufacturer). Keep proof of purchase.

Damaged or Missing Items

Notification of any damages or missing items must be received by Lights For You within seven (7) days of receipt of the product. Please email photos to ashfield@lightsforyou.com.au.

If the product is to be repaired or replaced, it must correspond to the one originally sent by Lights For You and the customer must include the delivery note and/or invoice.

Returns

Change of Mind Returns

  • Customers who wish to return a product due to a change of mind or cancelled order may do so within thirty (30) days of receipt.
  • The customer is responsible for the shipping costs for a change of mind return, irrespective of any free, discounted or any other type of shipping promotion that may have been applicable at the time of your order. This includes any costs you incur for us shipping the product to you in the first place and the cost of shipping the product back to us.
