The Domus EVAC-D40-MINI is a 1.8 W recessed non-maintained emergency light with a 3-hour duration, D40 classification and self-test, fully compliant to AS/NZS 2293.3. Cutout Ø25 mm.

What "non-maintained" means, and why it is the usual choice

• A non-maintained fitting is off in normal use and comes on only when the mains fails.
• ✅ That is what most Australian emergency lighting is, because the fitting is not lighting the space day to day — it exists to get people out.
• A maintained fitting, by contrast, is lit continuously and stays lit on battery. That is for exit signs and for spaces where the emergency fitting doubles as the normal light.
• ⚠ The two are not interchangeable on a plan. If your drawing calls for maintained, this is the wrong fitting.

⭐ D40, and what the classification actually does

• The classification sets how far apart the fittings can be. It describes the shape and reach of the light on the floor, and AS/NZS 2293.1 turns that into a spacing table.
• ✅ So the D40 figure is what a designer counts fittings with — more directly than the 130 lm output, which on its own says nothing about coverage.
• ⚠ Do not substitute a differently classified fitting into a designed layout without re-checking the spacing. Two emergency lights of the same wattage can have very different classifications.
• 120° beam, 130 lm at 4000 K, COB LED.

⭐ Self-test — a maintenance decision, not a feature

• The fitting tests itself. AS/NZS 2293.2 requires emergency lighting to be tested on a schedule, and a self-test fitting runs and logs its own discharge test rather than needing someone to key-switch each one.
• ✅ On a building with many fittings that is the difference between a half-day inspection and a walk-round — and it is a recurring cost, not a one-off.
• ⚠ Self-test is not the same as centrally monitored. The fitting knows; a person still has to look at it. Ask us if the building needs monitored emergency lighting, which is a different product class.

⭐ The Ø25 mm cutout, and what it is really for

• Ø25 mm is the smallest aperture in this catalogue by a wide margin — most emergency lights need 60–90 mm.
• ✅ Domus's own point: it is commonly fitted into suspended and surface-mounted LED profiles, turning an architectural light line into an emergency-rated one.
• ⭐ That solves a real problem. A corridor lit by a continuous profile normally needs separate emergency fittings breaking the line; this one hides inside it.
• ⚠ Check the profile will take it. Our aluminium profiles run from 16 mm to 56 mm deep and no source records which accept this fitting. Tell us the profile and we will confirm with Domus.

The battery, and the switch that matters on site

• LiFePO4 3.2 V 1.8 Ah — lithium iron phosphate, which tolerates heat and cycling better than the nickel-cadmium packs older emergency fittings used.
• ⭐ It has a polarity-reversal protection switch mode for the battery, and Domus is explicit about why: it is for jobs that are not finished, where the power will be off for weeks.
• ✅ That is a genuinely useful detail on a construction programme — emergency fittings installed early otherwise sit discharging, and arrive at handover already degraded.
• ⚠ No battery replacement interval is recorded. Ask us — it is a scheduled maintenance item.
