The BLAZE-PRO PE cell is a plug-and-play photoelectric sensor that switches a BLAZE-PRO floodlight on at dusk and off at dawn.
⛔ This is not a motion sensor, despite the category it sits in. That distinction is the single most important thing on this page, because Domus makes both as plug-in accessories for the same floodlights and they behave completely differently.
| PE cell (this) | PIR sensor | |
|---|---|---|
| Triggers on | Darkness | Movement |
| Behaviour | On at dusk, off at dawn | On for a set delay, then off |
| Runs | All night, every night | Only when something moves |
| Use it for | Continuous light — a car park, a yard, a shopfront | Arriving with your hands full; deterrence |
Choose the PE cell where the light should simply be on after dark. Choose the PIR where it should come on when someone arrives. ⚠ Ordering one expecting the other is the mistake this page exists to prevent.
Our record for this product holds one field. There is no datasheet.
Plug-and-play photoelectric (dusk-to-dawn) sensor accessory for Domus BLAZE-PRO floodlights. Black. Fits the sensor adaptor interface built into every BLAZE-PRO; no wiring required. Switches the floodlight on at dusk and off at dawn.
⛔ No datasheet exists for this part, and our record holds one field. The lux threshold, whether it is adjustable, the switching load, the dimensions and the warranty term are all unrecorded. Ask us and we will obtain them from Domus before you order.
⚠ This product is filed under Motion Sensors. It is not one. Domus also makes a PIR motion sensor for the same floodlights — ask us if that is what you want.
Supplied and supported by Lights For You.
No — and it is filed under Motion Sensors in our catalogue, which is why we are leading with this. A photoelectric cell switches on darkness: the light comes on at dusk and off at dawn, running all night. A PIR switches on movement: the light comes on when someone arrives and goes off after a set delay. Domus makes both as plug-in accessories for the same BLAZE-PRO floodlights, and ordering one expecting the other is the mistake this page exists to prevent.
It depends on whether the light should simply be on after dark. Choose the PE cell for a shopfront, a car park, a commercial entry or a yard that needs to be lit all night. Choose the PIR for a domestic driveway, a side path, a back door or a garage approach — anywhere you arrive with your hands full and do not need the light running while nobody is there.
Not recorded, and on a photoelectric cell that is the specification. The lux threshold decides whether the light comes on at first dusk or only at proper dark, and whether an overcast afternoon triggers it. Nor is it recorded whether the threshold is adjustable — some PE cells are fixed and some have a dial. Ask us and we will get both from Domus before you order.
Somewhere it cannot see the light it controls. A PE cell that catches its own floodlight will switch off, then on, then off — a slow hunting cycle that is obvious and eventually damaging. Keep it away from street lights and neighbouring security lights for the same reason, point it at open sky where you can, and avoid anything reflective nearby.
Only if it is a BLAZE-PRO. Every floodlight in that range has a sensor adaptor interface built in, which is what makes this plug-and-play — no wiring and no second device on the wall. It is not a general-purpose PE cell and will not fit other floodlights.
More than people expect, and it is worth weighing. Dusk to dawn averages around eleven hours a night in Australia, so roughly 4,000 hours a year — which puts a 50,000-hour fitting on about a twelve-year replacement cycle rather than a thirty-year one. Where continuous light is not genuinely needed, a PIR uses a small fraction of that.
Yes, and that is usually the better order. Fit the floodlights, live with them, then decide how they should be controlled — most people over-specify sensing before they have seen the light in place. It is just as easy to remove again if the behaviour turns out not to suit the position.
