• ⭐ IT CONTAINS BOTH WORDS AND DESCRIBES NEITHER PRODUCT CORRECTLY.
• ⭐ WHICH IS WHICH IS SETTLED BY THE FEATURES, NOT THE TITLE:
  • ⭐ THIS ONE IS RECESSED — ⭐ an adjustable 95/145 mm dish and a 34 mm depth, which only make sense for a fitting going into a hole.
  • ⭐ The other is surface-mounted — ⭐ a 180 × 180 mm plate and an 80 mm height, which only make sense for a fitting sitting on a ceiling.

⭐ D63 rather than D40 — and what the number decides

• ⭐ The classification under AS2293.3 is D63. ⭐ The letter describes the light distribution and the number is the spacing basis.
• ⭐⭐ PRACTICALLY, IT TELLS A DESIGNER HOW FAR APART THESE CAN SIT and still meet the required floor illuminance. ⭐ A higher number means wider spacing, so fewer fittings cover the same area. ⭐ That matters more to the cost of an emergency scheme than the lumen output does.
• ⭐ The related D40 fitting elsewhere in this range is 1.8 W and 239 lumens; this is 3.5 W and 380 — ⭐ so D63 buys both more light and wider spacing. ⭐ On a large floor plate that can mean noticeably fewer fittings.
• ⭐ Do not compare classifications across manufacturers by number alone — ⭐ the spacing tables are what matter, and your certifier will work from those.

⭐ A four-year warranty that includes the battery

⭐ The sheet says “4 Year Warranty including battery”. ⭐⭐ THAT INCLUSION IS THE PART TO NOTICE. ⭐ On emergency fittings the battery is the consumable and is commonly excluded from cover, so a warranty naming it is materially better than one that does not. ⭐ It is also longer than the D40 model's two years in the same range — ⭐ worth knowing if you are choosing between them for reasons other than spacing.

⭐ Polarity reversal protection — a genuinely practical feature

⭐ The range description notes a polarity reversal protection switch mode for the battery, described as suiting jobs not yet complete where the power must be turned off at the mains. ⭐⭐ WHAT THAT SOLVES IS A REAL SITE PROBLEM. ⭐ Emergency fittings installed early in a build sit discharging every time the site power goes off, and a battery cycled that way repeatedly before handover arrives at commissioning already degraded. ⭐ A switch that isolates the battery until the job is live protects it. ⭐ If fittings are going in months before practical completion, ask us how to set it.

⭐ Non-maintained, and the adjustable dish

• ⭐ Non-maintained means the fitting is dark in normal use and illuminates only when the mains supply fails. ⭐ That is the normal choice for offices, corridors and back-of-house — the LED and battery are only worked when needed.
• ⭐ THE 95 TO 145 mm ADJUSTABLE DISH IS THE RETROFIT FEATURE. ⭐ It covers a wide range of existing holes, so on a refit the fitting drops into whatever the old one left behind. ⭐ At 34 mm deep it also goes into ceilings that will not take a conventional downlight body.
• ⭐ An adaptor plate for larger holes is also supplied in this range. ⭐ Check the existing cutout against the 95–145 mm range before ordering.

⚠ And the owner obligation nobody sells

⭐ Emergency fittings require periodic discharge testing under AS2293.2. ⭐ That is an owner obligation rather than a product feature, and it is what determines whether the fitting works on the day it is needed. ⭐ A building full of emergency lights that has never been tested is a building with unknown emergency lighting.
