Domus RECESSED D40 LED EMERGENCY Light

The Domus RECESSED D40 LED Emergency Light is a non-maintained emergency luminaire — 1.8 W, 239 lumens, D40 classification, LiFePO4 battery, recessed with an adjustable 95/145 mm dish at 34 mm deep.

⛔ Its two records disagree about the colour temperature

• ⭐ The datasheet says 4500 K. The product's metafield says 3000 K.
• ⭐ That is not a rounding — 4500 K is a cool neutral white and 3000 K is a warm domestic one, and the two look plainly different side by side.
• ⭐⭐ ON AN EMERGENCY FITTING THE ANSWER MATTERS MORE THAN USUAL. ⭐ Emergency lighting exists to let people find an exit in smoke or darkness, and cooler light reads as brighter at low levels and gives better contrast on edges and steps. ⭐ 4500 K is the conventional choice for the job and 3000 K would be unusual — ⭐ which makes the datasheet the more likely of the two.

⭐ What non-maintained means, and why it is usually right

⭐ A non-maintained emergency fitting is off in normal use and illuminates only when the mains supply fails. ⭐ A maintained one is lit all the time and doubles as ordinary lighting. ⭐ Non-maintained is the normal choice for offices, corridors and back-of-house, because the LED and the battery are only worked when needed and the fitting disappears into the ceiling the rest of the time. ⭐ Maintained is for places that must never be fully dark — theatres, cinemas, some stairwells.

⭐ D40, and what the classification actually tells you

⭐ The sheet gives a D40 classification under AS2293.3. ⭐ The letter describes the light distribution and the number is the spacing basis — ⭐ in practice it tells a designer how far apart these fittings can sit and still meet the required floor illuminance. ⭐ It is the figure that determines how many you need, so it matters more than the lumen output on its own. ⭐ 239 lumens sounds small; classified emergency optics spread it deliberately rather than concentrating it.

⭐ The battery is the part that ages, and the warranty covers it

• ⭐ The sheet specifies a LiFePO4 cell, and the warranty is “2 Year Warranty including battery”.
• ⭐ THAT INCLUSION IS WORTH READING TWICE. ⭐ On emergency fittings the battery is the consumable and it is commonly excluded from cover — ⭐ so a warranty that names it is a better warranty than one that does not. ⚠ The product's own metafield records only “2 Years*”, which does not convey it.
• ⭐ LiFePO4 is a sensible choice here: it tolerates the constant trickle charge of an emergency fitting better than older chemistries and is more stable at ceiling temperatures.
• ⚠ Emergency fittings require periodic discharge testing under AS2293.2. ⭐ That is an owner obligation, not a product feature, and it is what determines whether the fitting works on the day it is needed.

⭐ The adjustable dish is the useful detail

⭐ 95 to 145 mm adjustable, 34 mm deep. ⭐ An adjustable dish covers a range of existing cutouts, which on a refit is the difference between dropping the fitting in and re-cutting the ceiling. ⭐ And 34 mm is shallow — ⭐ it will go into ceilings that will not take a conventional downlight body. ⭐ On a retrofit, check the existing cutout against that range before ordering.
