Domus ZEKE-PRO 5 RND Sm IP65 5W TRIO 240V

The Domus ZEKE-PRO-5 round surface-mounted, 240 V is a mains surface step light — 240 V AC, 5 W, 305–365 lumens, CRI ≥90, IP65, not dimmable, in black or white.

⛔ Its own datasheet contradicts itself on wattage

• ⭐ The spec table says power_watt = 5W. ⛔ The prose on the same page says “consuming a minimal power consumption of 4W”.
• ⭐ MEASURED: all four ZEKE-PRO-5 sheets do this. ⭐ The prose was carried from a superseded 4 W model and never updated — two of the four sheets even name the product ZEKE-PRO-4.
• ⭐ THE SPEC TABLE IS THE RELIABLE HALF. ⭐ Take 5 W and 305–365 lm.
• ⭐ It matters slightly for circuit arithmetic on a long run and not at all otherwise — ⭐ but a document that disagrees with itself is worth knowing about before you trust its other figures. ⭐ Everything else on the sheet cross-checks against the range.

⭐ Surface-mounted — the answer for anything already built

• ⭐⭐ SAME ENGINE AS THE RECESSED ZAC-PRO: same 305/348/365 lm, same CRI ≥90, same 120° beam. ⭐ The only difference is that it sits on the wall instead of in it.
• ⭐⭐ WHICH MEANS NO CORING, NO CHASING AND NO BOX CAST INTO A STAIR — a cable and two fixings. ⭐ On an existing masonry wall or a finished concrete stair that is the difference between a half-day job and a fortnight. ⭐ Its own description names the case: “any area in which recessed mounting is not an option”.
• ⭐ IT IS ALSO THE REVERSIBLE CHOICE. ⭐ A surface fitting in the wrong place leaves two holes; a recessed one in the wrong place leaves a hole you have to patch. ⭐ On a scheme where the right positions are not obvious until dark, that is worth real money.
• ⚠ THE COSTS: it projects, so keep it out of the walking line; and it is visible in daylight. ⭐ Black recedes against most masonry, white announces itself.

⛔ Not dimmable — and here that cannot be fixed later

⭐ The sheet says dimmable = No; the 24 V version dims. ⭐ The dimming lives in the driver, which a mains fitting has built in. ⭐ ALL 6 low-voltage step lights in the range dim; ⚠ 4 of 10 mains ones do too, so this is a tendency rather than a law. ⚠ DO NOT PUT IT ON A DIMMER CIRCUIT. ⭐ Over-brightness is the commonest fault in low-level lighting and it is judged on site at night, so if there is any doubt about the level, the 24 V version is the one to take.

⭐ Round, and where that is the better shape

⭐ The round and square ZEKE-PRO-5 are identical in every published specification. ⭐⭐ SO THE CHOICE IS THE SURFACE, NOT THE FITTING. ⭐ A round unit has no alignment to get wrong, which on render, natural stone or anything irregular is a genuine advantage — a square fitting on an irregular surface reads as slightly off unless it is set perfectly, and it rarely is. ⭐ A square one aligns to brick courses and tile grids. ⚠ Pick one and use it throughout; mixing them is what looks unresolved.

⭐ The chromate process, and why it matters most on a surface fitting

⭐ “A special chromate process before a polyester powder coated finish is applied.” ⭐⭐ THAT IS A CONVERSION COATING ON THE BARE ALUMINIUM BEFORE PAINT, AND IT DECIDES WHETHER THE POWDER COAT STAYS ATTACHED — ⭐ untreated aluminium lets the coating lift at any chip, and corrosion then runs underneath it. ⭐⭐ ON A SURFACE FITTING THE WHOLE BODY IS EXPOSED RATHER THAN JUST A TRIM, and at ground level it meets mowers, edgers, irrigation and fertiliser. ⭐ It is the specification that predicts service life in a coastal or irrigated position.

⭐ CRI ≥90 and deliberately modest output

⭐ Most exterior step lights run CRI 70 to 80. ⭐ At CRI ≥90 sandstone, brick, timber and render keep their colour — exactly what a step light washes from 300 mm away. ⭐ The output is modest on purpose: a step light shows where the ground changes rather than lighting the garden, and a bright one at that height is a glare source in the eye-line. ⭐ Set 3000 K outdoors. ⛔ Its application field says “Indoor” — one of 78 IP65+ products that do.
