Domus ZAC-PRO 8 REC IP65 8W TRIO 240V

The Domus ZAC-PRO-8 recessed, 240 V is a linear mains recessed step light — 226 mm long, 240 V AC, 8 W, 421–495 lumens, CRI ≥90, IP65, not dimmable, in black or white.

⭐ Linear, and that is the reason to choose it

• ⭐ 226 mm long against the ZAC-PRO-5's Ø115 mm round or 105 mm square.
• ⭐⭐ A LINEAR FITTING WASHES A BAND ACROSS A TREAD; A ROUND ONE THROWS A POOL. ⭐ On a 1.2 m tread a pool leaves the edges dark — and the edge of a step is precisely what people misjudge. ⭐ So the format is a safety decision as much as an aesthetic one.
• ⭐ IT ALSO READS AS ARCHITECTURE RATHER THAN AS A FITTING. ⭐ A horizontal slot set into a wall aligns with the horizontal of the stair itself, where a circle sits on the wall as a separate object.
• ⭐ At 421/462/495 lm it is about a third brighter than the 5 W unit for 60% more power — ⭐ so it is less efficient per lumen, and the spread rather than the output is what you are paying for.

⚠ 210 × 60 mm — the largest cutout in the family, and a masonry decision

• ⭐ Cutout 210 × 60 mm without the recessed box, 220 × 70 mm with it. ⭐⭐ THE ACCESSORY CHANGES BOTH DIMENSIONS, SO THE BOX DECISION MUST COME BEFORE ANYONE CUTS.
• ⚠ A 210 mm SLOT IS LONGER THAN A STANDARD BRICK IS TALL AND CROSSES A MORTAR COURSE. ⭐ In brickwork that is a cut through a joint rather than a hole in a face, which is a conversation with the bricklayer and not only the electrician.
• ⭐ IN A POURED CONCRETE STAIR IT WANTS THE BOX CAST IN AT THE POUR. ⚠ Coring a 210 × 60 mm rectangle afterwards is genuinely difficult and usually looks it.
• ⭐ Depth is 53.5 mm plus the box — ⚠ check that against the wall thickness, particularly on a single-skin wall where 70 mm of box may be most of it.

⛔ Not dimmable, and at 495 lumens that is the thing to weigh

• ⭐ The sheet says dimmable = No. ⚠ Do not put it on a dimmer circuit.
• ⭐⭐ ON THE 8 W UNIT THIS COSTS MORE THAN ON THE 5 W ONE, because 495 lumens across a tread is genuinely bright at close range — ⭐ and over-brightness is the commonest fault in low-level lighting. ⭐ You are committing to a level you can only judge on site at night.
• ⭐ THE 24 V VERSION OF THIS FITTING DIMS. ⭐ If there is any doubt about the level, that is the version to take — ⚠ though note its record wrongly publishes 240 V, one of 12 products with that fault.
• ⭐ ALL 6 low-voltage step lights in the range dim; ⚠ 4 of 10 mains ones do too. ⭐ A tendency, not a law.

⭐ What mains buys: no driver

⭐⭐ NO DRIVER TO SIZE, SITE OR REPLACE, AND NO VOLTAGE DROP TO CALCULATE. ⭐ On a short run that is a real saving, and it removes the component most likely to fail — an external driver usually goes years before the LEDs do. ⚠ THE ARITHMETIC FLIPS ON A LONG RUN: ten mains fittings is ten mains connections against one driver and ten easy joints. ⭐ Roughly, mains wins below about four fittings. ⭐ With the 8 W unit the crossover comes sooner, because at 8 W each a low-voltage run needs a larger driver anyway.

⭐ CRI ≥90 across a wider band

⭐ Most exterior step lights run CRI 70 to 80. ⭐⭐ AT CRI ≥90 SANDSTONE, BRICK, TIMBER AND RENDER KEEP THEIR COLOUR, and on a linear fitting that quality is spread across a whole tread rather than concentrated in a pool — ⭐ so the CRI is doing more visible work here than on a round unit. ⭐ The 120° beam covers about a metre of path from a 300 mm mounting. ⭐ Set 3000 K outdoors. ⛔ Its application field says “Indoor” — one of 78 IP65+ products that do.
