• ⭐ SO IF YOU ARE BUYING MAINS, THIS RECORD IS RELIABLE. ⚠ If you are buying the 24 V version of anything in this range, ignore its voltage field and read the title.

⛔ Not dimmable — and that is the real difference from the 24 V version

• ⭐ The sheet says dimmable = No. ⚠ Do not put it on a dimmer circuit — a non-dimmable supply on a dimmer will flicker, buzz or fail.
• ⭐⭐ THE REASON IS ARCHITECTURAL: on a mains fitting the supply is built in, so there is nowhere to put the dimming choice. ⭐ On the 24 V version the driver is external and you choose a dimmable one.
• ⭐ WE CHECKED WHETHER THAT GENERALISES ACROSS THE STEP-LIGHT RANGE, AND IT IS A TENDENCY RATHER THAN A LAW. ⭐ All 6 low-voltage step lights dim. ⚠ But 4 of 10 mains ones do too. ⭐ So check the individual product; do not infer from the voltage.
• ⚠ IF DIMMING MATTERS, TAKE THE 24 V VERSION. ⭐ Over-brightness is the commonest fault in low-level lighting, and it is judged on site at night — a dimmer is how you correct it without changing fittings.

⭐ What mains buys instead: simplicity

• ⭐⭐ NO DRIVER, NO EXTRA COMPONENT, NO ENCLOSURE TO SITE AND NO VOLTAGE DROP TO CALCULATE. ⭐ On a short run of two or three fittings that is a real saving.
• ⭐ IT ALSO REMOVES THE MOST FAILURE-PRONE PART. ⭐ An external driver is usually the first thing to fail in a low-voltage scheme, and it fails years before the LEDs.
• ⚠ THE ARITHMETIC FLIPS ON A LONG RUN. ⭐ Ten mains fittings is ten mains connections; ten low-voltage ones is one driver and ten easy joints. ⭐ Roughly, mains wins below about four fittings and low voltage wins above it — ⚠ though the dimming question usually decides it first.

⭐ The sheet gives Ø100 mm without the recessed box and 110 × 110 mm with it. ⭐⭐ SO THE ACCESSORY CHANGES THE HOLE AND THE DECISION MUST COME BEFORE CUTTING. ⭐ Note this sheet gives the square figure where its 24 V twin gives a round Ø110 mm — ⭐ this one is the sensible reading for a square fitting. ⚠ On a step light the hole is in masonry or a concrete stair, which is the one dimension that cannot be corrected once cut.

⭐ Square recessed — aligned and invisible

⭐⭐ A RECESSED FITTING DISAPPEARS IN DAYLIGHT where a surface one is an object on the wall. ⭐ And a square one aligns with brick courses, tile grids, paver joints and rendered reveals — set to the course it reads as part of the wall, where a circle in coursed brickwork reads as applied. ⭐ If the layout is not settled, the surface-mounted ZEKE-PRO is the same engine with the same output and no hole at all.

⭐ CRI ≥90, and modest output on purpose

⭐ Most exterior step lights run CRI 70 to 80. ⭐ At CRI ≥90 sandstone, brick, timber and render keep their colour — and those are exactly what a step light washes from 300 mm. ⭐ 305/348/365 lm across the three colours is deliberately modest, because a bright fitting at that height is a glare source in the eye-line that destroys night vision. ⭐ Set 3000 K outdoors. ⛔ Its application field says “Indoor” — one of 78 IP65+ products that do.
