The Domus AURA is a 3 W recessed LED step light in die-cast aluminium with an asymmetric optic, CRI ≥90 and switchable 2700 K / 4000 K / 6000 K. Round fascia, six aperture designs, Ø35 mm cutout.

⛔ The fascia changes the output by more than four times

Slot at 31 lm against Halo at 9 lm is a 3.4-fold difference — chosen from a dropdown, on one listing, with nothing indicating that the choice changes the light at all.

✅ Choose the fascia for the job: Slot or Wide where the light has to reach a floor or a tread; Narrow for a tighter wash; Ring or Halo where the fitting is a marker and the glow is the point. Tell us what you are lighting and we will pick.

⭐ CRI ≥90 on a step light, and an asymmetric optic

• CRI ≥90 is a step above the ≥80 most of this catalogue runs, and unusual at 3 W.
• ✅ It earns its keep here because of where the light lands. A step light grazes a stair tread, a stone floor or a timber walkway at a shallow angle from very close — and at that geometry a poor spectrum shows as a flat grey wash rather than the material's real colour.
• ⭐ The asymmetric optic throws the light forward and down, rather than in a symmetric pool around the fitting. ✅ That is what puts light on the tread in front rather than on the riser below it, and it is why a step light works where an ordinary miniature downlight does not.
• ⚠ An asymmetric fitting has an orientation. It must be installed the right way up, or the light goes where you did not want it. We will confirm that with the order.

⭐ 2700 K to 6000 K — a wider span than the usual TRIO

• 2700 K — extra warm. Hotel corridors, residential stairs, anywhere the light should feel like lamplight.
• 4000 K — the brightest setting on every fascia, and the neutral choice for commercial walkways.
• 6000 K — a cold daylight white. ⚠ Colder than the 5700 K most of this catalogue offers, and rarely right at low level in a building people live in.
• ⚠ Set by dip switch before installation, and set a whole run the same way — a line of step lights is seen all at once, so one wrong setting is unmissable.

Round or square, and what each listing actually stocks

• This is the round-fascia listing, and it carries all six aperture designs: Narrow, Wide, Slot, Round Ring, Square Ring and Halo.
• ⚠ The square-fascia listing carries five — it does not stock the Halo.
• ✅ So if you want the Halo effect, it is the round frame or nothing. Worth knowing before a scheme is drawn around it.
• Black or white painted die-cast aluminium frames, both listings.

Installing it

• Ø35 mm cutout. Small, and it goes into a wall rather than a ceiling — so the constraint is usually the stud or the block behind, not a void.
• IP20 — ⚠ dry interiors only. Not an external stair, not a covered alfresco. Ask us if the run goes outside.
• Fully dimmable with suitable dimmers — ⚠ on a 24 V circuit the driver has to support dimming as well.
• ⚠ Mounting height sets the effect. Too high and a step light becomes a glare source at eye level on a stair; typically 200–300 mm above the tread. Tell us the geometry and we will suggest a height.
