Frya 30 Pendant Light 1Lt

The Frya 30 is a single-light rattan pendant, ø300 mm across, on an iron frame. The number in the name is its diameter in centimetres — not a light count — and the woven shade is what it is for.

Woven rattan throws patterned light

Rattan is not a diffuser. Light escapes between the weave, so the fitting casts a pattern on the ceiling and surrounding walls as well as lighting the surface below. That is the effect people buy it for, and it is more pronounced with a clear globe than a frosted one. If you want a clean pool of light with no pattern, this is the wrong shade.

Three finishes on the same weave

Natural is the pale, unstained rattan and the warmest. Brown is a mid tone that sits against timber joinery. Black is the most graphic and shows the weave as silhouette rather than texture.

Light enough to hang anywhere

It weighs 0.9 kg and hangs on a 1,500 mm suspension, shortened at installation. At that weight the ceiling fixing needs no special provision, which makes it one of the easier pendants to hang in a group.

• Kitchen islands and breakfast bars, in rows of two or three.
• Dining tables, singly over a small table.
• Bedrooms and bedsides, hung low, where the ceiling pattern is part of the appeal.
• Coastal, Hamptons and natural-material interiors.

Specifying it

Shade ø300 mm, height 230 mm, weight 0.9 kg, suspension 1,500 mm. One E27 globe up to 25 W, not supplied. Materials are iron and rattan. It runs on 240 V, is IP20 — indoor and dry locations only, and is Class I, so an earth is required. Dimming is globe dependent. Warranty is three years.
