A suggestion, not a specification. A calculator can get it wrong — have a licensed electrician confirm the driver, the total load and the wiring before you order.
The Domus ASTRA is a 12 V DC recessed cabinet light in white, black, silver, satin brass or polished chrome — a Ø57 mm cutout, only 16 mm deep, 230 lumens, with switchable 3000 K / 4000 K / 5000 K.
⚠ It runs on 12 V DC and the driver is not included. Nothing in the title or on the page said so, and it is the thing that stops an installation dead.
Tell us how many you are fitting and we will size the driver with you.
That is the specification that matters here. A standard downlight needs 30–90 mm behind it; 16 mm fits inside joinery:
Most cabinet lights come in white and nothing else. The ASTRA comes in white, black, silver, satin brass and polished chrome.
⚠ Set them all the same, and set them before the joinery closes.
⚠ A cabinet light lives behind a door. Consider a door switch or a PIR so it comes on when the cupboard opens — otherwise it runs whenever the circuit is on, or never gets used. Ask us; it is a small addition that changes how the lighting actually works.
Cutout Ø57 mm, face Ø70 mm, depth 16 mm, in white, black, silver, satin brass or polished chrome. 3.6 W SMD LED giving 200 / 230 / 205 lm at 3000 K / 4000 K / 5000 K switchable; CRI ≥80, 110° beam, 50,000 hrs. ⚠ 12 V DC — a constant-voltage driver is REQUIRED and NOT supplied (six lights = 21.6 W, so a 30 W driver). Dimmable via a dimmable 12 V driver and a compatible dimmer. IP20 — indoor and dry only. Warranty 3 years.
Supplied and supported by Lights For You.
No, and nothing in the title or on the page said so — which is the thing that stops an installation dead. It runs on 12 V DC and cannot be wired to mains. You need a 12 V constant-voltage driver sized for every ASTRA on the run: at 3.6 W each, six lights is 21.6 W, so a 30 W driver with headroom covers it. Tell us how many you are fitting and we will size it with you.
That is the point of it — 16 mm deep, where a standard downlight needs 30 to 90 mm behind it. It goes into the underside of an overhead cupboard where the carcass is 16 to 18 mm, into display shelves, wardrobes, pantries, bulkheads and reveals. Still check the void: 16 mm of fitting plus the cable needs somewhere to go, so talk to your cabinetmaker before the joinery is built.
So it can match the cabinet hardware rather than sit apart from it as a white disc. Satin brass and polished chrome are the ones that matter — in a kitchen with brushed brass or chrome handles, a matching bezel reads as part of the joinery. White disappears into a white carcass, black reads as a deliberate detail, and silver is the neutral.
Space them at roughly the shelf depth — two or three across a standard cupboard, not one in the middle. The 110° beam is wide, which is what cabinet lighting wants: at close range a narrow beam makes a bright spot and dark corners, while 110° from 300 to 400 mm above a shelf covers the whole depth.
Yes, but through the driver rather than the fitting — you need a dimmable 12 V driver and a compatible dimmer. Ask us and we will match the set.
Worth considering. A cabinet light lives behind a door, so without a door switch or a PIR it either runs whenever the circuit is on or never gets used. It is a small addition that changes how the lighting actually works — ask us.
3000 K warm for timber, brass and display cabinets, and it matches most decorative lighting elsewhere in a room. 4000 K is neutral and the brightest setting — right for kitchens and pantries where you are looking for things. 5000 K is cool, for retail display and task. Set them all the same, and set them before the joinery closes.
