Tivah Solid Brass TRI Colour Double

The second head is not about brightness. It is about aiming two ways from one hole in the ground. A double Tivah puts two independently adjustable MR16 heads on a single 1000 mm stem, fed by one cable from one driver. On a driveway edge that means washing the drive one way and the garden bed the other from a single fitting; along a path it means lighting both directions instead of alternating single fittings down the run. Each head tilts through 90° and swivels through 270°, so they genuinely can be aimed at unrelated things rather than fanned slightly apart.

The number to get right before you buy the driver

Each head carries its own 5 W MR16, so this fitting draws 10 W, not 5 W. That matters the moment you put more than one on a run: six doubles is a 60 W load, not 30 W, and a driver chosen on the single-head figure will be undersized. Havit's sheet writes the output the same way — 2 x 270 lm at 3000K, 2 x 285 lm at 4000K and 2 x 300 lm at 5500K, which is 540, 570 or 600 lm across the fitting. Both sockets are rated to 20 W each, and the heads are wired in parallel, so one globe failing does not take the other with it.

Solid brass, and Havit says it will change

The body is solid brass and the datasheet records the colour as brass that will age over time. Unlacquered, it darkens outdoors from bright yellow through gold to a deep warm brown — fast in the first season, slowly after that. Because the colour lives in the metal rather than in a coating, a scratch weathers back in rather than exposing something else underneath. That is the argument for solid brass and the reason not to buy it expecting it to stay bright.

Globes, colour and the conditions on the warranty

• Both globes are tri-colour and each is set independently at the globe — cover off anti-clockwise, glass out, switch on the side. Preset to 3000K. Set both the same unless you want two different colours from one fitting, which is rarely what anyone means to do.
• The beam belongs to the globes, not the housing. The supplied tri-colour MR16s are 120° floods; narrower MR16s make the same fitting a pair of spots.
• 12 V DC from a suitable 12 V DC LED driver; do not connect the fitting directly to 240 V.
• No more than 25 m from the driver, supply within ±5% of 12 V. Both are warranty conditions, and the second one is easier to breach on a long run feeding 10 W fittings.
• Not dimmable. 2 m of reinforced cable, joints soldered and sealed. Do not force either head past its stop — the internal cable twists and shorts, and that is excluded.
